His weapon was always the most powerful, or at least, effective. I believed that losing an eye would help to convey that he is more experienced, but also that the world is dangerous. I believe that fits Hank's leader role.

Yeah, I believe it was influenced by the way it was animated, being easier and fitting the budget.
