Another sketch which never got inked or completed.My Mer-race again. Kinda menacing looking bunch of people.
Not yer usual soft namby-pamby wishy-washy tuna friendly mer-type people.

Beautiful layout. I love how you get the beast part of mythic creatures, which makes them beautiful. The fins by his abs are nicely placed/sized and feel like there part of how he flaunts his masculinity.
I like the doubled fin, I've been trying to design one that would make it possible for the be-finned to swim with both horizontal and vertical fins but it's not so easy making up anatomy. You've done it beautifully here though!

Wow thanks for the compliments. I've always love mythical creatures, but wanted to put my own spin on them. Because the sea is full of dangerous creatures, but it is just like man to make mermaid look so soft and defenceless. I believe if a creature like could only survive the deep if they were seriously tough/menacing.

What I hate most of all is seeing mermaids with the fins that are about as big as their head with "tails" that have knee joints and everything..

hahahaha I'm with you there. Who says Mermaids have to be all soft and swishy eh?! Everyone always does Mermaids as harmless sea flowers, just there to look pretty. My Mer-Race would kick ass (if they had feet).
