whew, finally finished this!! I'll have it as an 11"x17" poster for sale at AnimeFest next month~ I might even sell some online too, if anyone's interested....
I took a History of Graphic Design class last semester, and it was really fascinating! I really like taking inspiration from history, so that's pretty much where the idea for this came from... a Fire Ferret poster in the style of a vintage sports poster from the 1920's or so. it was a challenge to incorporate different elements into one piece like this, and especially to try to recreate a very traditional feel completely digitally.
even the characters themselves were referenced from actual sports posters. in Avatar, "bending" is based off of real martial arts. so for Pro-Bending, I used real sports poses as references. Bolin's pose is based off of a football player, and Korra and Mako are soccer poses.
