Description
Just got the game for keeps! Absolutely LOVE it!!! And love all the Dragon Dads (Elder Dragons, basically everyone older than Spyro, yet the little purple muffin is so precious!), yet, as I suppose some others are wondering: where are the girls? Those eggs the thieves are stealing and the ones that you’ve got to get in Year of the Dragon (released in 2000, so double meaning, lol) didn’t come from nowhere. And given that there are only 75 shown dragons in the first game (NOT 80, as Spyro himself even asks whether or not he’s already freed some of these guys), I made some ladies to fill up the next five spots.
Now, as to how, let alone why there are so few female dragons, it kind of ties into some headcanons of mine (relating to the Sorceress and upon the dragons’ banishment, laid some curse on them to plague them with tragedy and misery, of which included many of them dying by various means, especially dragoness’, and the eggs that were laid either being stolen or the hatchlings dying either in the egg or soon after hatching. It’s sort of eluded to in this little shameless self promotion here-

"How is it going?"
Brushing back the banner of the small dwelling was a bipedal, reptilian beast of considerable size, and an equally considerably large, boisterous voice to complement it. Yet now, in the dead of this late, nearly lightless night, the light red dragon's general demeanor mimicked that of everyone else that had been called here, the Artisan's main dwelling having a good share of foreign visitors.
Kneeling by the small, rectangularly shaped basket that he had carved by hand for carrying tools, Nestor turned to the one addressing him, something of far higher value resting in the small structure. "His condition isn't improving." the green dragon confessed, the cloth from his satchel still in the small bowl of water, he reaching in and wringing out, dabbing the small creature in the basket with it again. "This needs to be colder. His fever's gotten higher." Nestor rose, lightly adjusting his green vest. "Stay her )
With that said, here they are, one for each race, and each with their own unique skills.
Anyte-Aquifier (due to some info provided by , her race has changed, she just resides in the Artisan Realm.
Occupation-Singer
Personality-One of the lyrical geniuses of the Five Realms (as she self-proclaims), Anyte is known by others for her haughtiness and large ego. A diva, through and through. She wishes to present herself as elegant and proper, a true lady, yet it is quite easy to get under her skin, especially when a certain, little plucky dragon is involved. Nevertheless, it can’t be denied that her vocals are something to behold, or more appropriately, heard. And despite her boasts, her self-proclaimed title is well-deserved in many ways. She has herself a good number of admirers amongst her clan, and wishes to spread her work far and wide amongst the realms. A romantic at heart, she is quite a fantasizer or romance, yet, to her dismay, has yet to have a dragon sweep her away. She’s also quite a swimmer, her favorite spots to unwind and even practice always bodies of water in her homeland. Dark Hollow holds a small waterfall stationed near Oswin’s underground library that serves as her favorite spot.
Unfortunately, she is (presumably) the last of the Aquifiers, a race of dragons that once held a realm of their own, though now, aside from herself, they are presumed to be no more.
Spyro is one that frustrates her to no end, his boundless energy and eagerness to get into everything has led to a good number of her lyric sheets ruined (thus, she always prints duplicates with a printing press). That said, along with the others, she has tried to broaden his ‘creative’ horizons, eager to teach and potentially breed him into a ‘proper little dragon’, perhaps her protege. Of course, that has yet to occur. And it may never. Ever. His voice made her ears bleed.
Pingyang-Peace Keepers
Occupation-Guard of the Borders, and student of Xing Yi Quan
Personality- An accomplished martial artist in her own right and skill in melee combat, Pingyang is far from someone any Gnorc, let alone any troublemaker wants to come across. Blunt, to the point, and quite a lover of liquid courage, the dragoness can always be seen at celebrations or special occasions living it up with tonic or whatever is available. She mainly keeps to her own kind, yet makes friends with those in similar vein of herself. It is notable, however, that she has no wings, cut off at the vertebrae. No one asks about this or makes note of it, yet she feels that she’s always been watched. She doesn’t venture out much unless she has to, yet she finds the buzzards of Dry Canyon to be worth a trip. Flame broiled with a pinch of salt…
Spyro, as he sees all the Peace Keepers, thinks she’s ‘cool’, though, unlike the others, his naivety has him bring up her lack of wings. She storms off, yet comes to find him and apologize. She explains that it’s a sensitive subject for her, yet maybe it’s time that she talk about it. Spyro tells her what Nestor told him, yet also notes that he has to maybe wait until she wants to.
In truth, she was one of the baby dragons that the Soccorress cut the wings off of, and unlike the others, she found the nerves where they had once been were damaged, and even with artificial wings, she’ll never fly.
Mim-Magic Crafters/Machinist Mix (based on more info thanks to ) spyro.fandom.com/wiki/Machinis…
Occupation-???
(Did a little tweaking with her bio and occupation, as there's already something of a potion maker in Eldrid, even if he's more of an alchemist).
Personality-Described as insane and unstable, Mim is, at best, an experimenter and explorer of the magical horizons, and at worst, an impulsive, reckless child trapped in an adult body. Her relationship with the others of her kind varies, ranging from bemused to animosity, seeing her continuous experiments as either inventive or fools’ errands. She doesn't have a set 'profession' in the sense that she excels at one particular subject. In fact, that makes her even more of an oddity amongst her fellow dragons, she taking part in a variety of magical studies. Conjuring, charms, alchemy, potions, transfiguration, etc. And while learning and the pursuit of knowledge IS a quality the Magic Crafters take pride in, her methods of doing so are considered more than a little...unorthodox.
Strangely enough, however, she has always had a knack for fixing things, particularly mechanical. And, she has an affinity and fascination with gears, wind up toys, and electricity.
Despite this, however, along with a good deal of failures behind her, Mim is quite intelligent and well versed in knowledge. Her skills in her craft cannot be denied, and her successes, when they do occur, have made for some great accomplishments and achievements. As she is, in a sense, a wizard, she decided that there was no better place for practice than Wizard’s Peak.
Whenever she can, she always tries to involve Spyro in her ‘work’, trying to get him to try various concoctions she’s brewed or new charms she's developed, one of which was allowing her to try turning him into another creature, then to turn him back. One time, she believed she could develop a charm that would aid in the Peace Keepers’ efforts, albeit a little unorthodox (a 'tickle' charm of all things). She encourages Spyro’s curiosity and ambition, telling him to leave no stone unturned. Discipline be darned and rules be bent and broken! The impossible is just what hasn’t been challenged yet. Spyro in turn holds mixed feelings on her. She certainly is more ‘fun’ than most of the Artisans, yet he won’t deny that in the end, he’d take living with them over Magic Crafters, if it means getting protection from Mim’s madness.
Along the way in her studies, she has found that, oddly enough, she may have found her true calling. Not solely in magic, yet also in the mechanical. Though few amongst her fellow dragons are aware, and she herself was not until recently, her heiratige doesn't entirely lie in just one clan, but two. One where work amongst machines and other such things were of second nature to them. One that, same as the Aquafiers, is unfortunately, gone. Their technology now used by that of the Gnorcs.
Delphine-Beast Makers
Occupation-Caretaker for the Nymphs
(upon thinking of it over, I removed her status as being married to Bruno, even if the fic mentioned above mentioned a 'missus'. Simple solution: she's been dead, and Delphine is just another dragon he knows).
Personality-Like many others of her kind, Delphine is something of an environmentalist, preserving and caring for the natural creatures of her homeland, as well as keeping them in line in population and from becoming too rowdy. Her special job, caring for the special pool where Dragonflies lay their eggs before they die, when their dragons become adults and no longer need their protection. She provides the nymphs with food and shields them from potential predators. Likewise, she takes her duty incredibly seriously, nothing escaping her watchful eyes. Amongst her fellow dragons, she seems to take on the role of an overbearing, all seeing mother figure to the others. This isn’t to say that she holds them lower than herself, far from it. She simply cares about her duty and knows that it falls on all of her kind to make sure the balance of nature is maintained. She’s also known as quite the prolific cook amongst the Beast Keepers, having a flair for Cajun cuisine. For the best ingredients, she frequently visits the Tree Tops of her homeland.
Spyro knows all too well of this, having been on the end of many lectures of the importance of hard work and patience, how life is not all fun and games, and whatever else she sees fit to educate him about, all of which he hates hearing. She wishes to teach him self-reliance, as well as how to properly care for Sparx, as he IS his dragonfly. Plus, to his dismay, she mainly relies on him to test whether or not her dishes, specifically her gumbo, is just right. Beast Keepers just have a higher tolerance for spices than Artisans. A far, FAR higher tolerance.
Titania-Dream Weavers
Occupation-Reader and Interpreter of Dreams
Personality-Everything in life, whether in the physical plain or mental, all things link back to the subconscious. This is something Titania lives by, and what she attempts to present herself as, a seer and researcher of the mind. Something of a clairvoyant, she regards each and every symbol in dreams as something meaningful, even something as strange as being turned into a banana. She is known by others outside her clan to be quite odd and spacey, some outright writing her off as possibly as, or even more mad that Mim at times. Nevertheless, she is a pursuer of enlightenment and a seeker of purpose, for in that, she hopes to find the power to better channel and guide others in their own path of life. She is dream interpretation and divination. And seeing as she can't get through the day without meditation, despite its reputation, Haunted Towers proves to have some of the best spots for such a thing, the living suits of armor notwithstanding.
Since his birth and miraculous survival, Titania has held a particular fixation on Spyro, as he came so close to death, surely he must’ve bore witness to some sort of otherworldly knowledge. Even if he assured her that wasn’t the case, she still wished to test him, as she was certain he was no ordinary hatchling. She is convinced that something is up with him: potential past lives, hidden abilities he has yet to awaken, tasks of the future he has yet to go on. And whenever he has a dream, she immediately wastes no time in seeing him, excited to see what lays in store in his mind. She is somewhat self-serving in this, yet she also wishes to help Spyro in his life path, as she feels it may be one that will turn the tide for all of them in the future.
Given that the collective of dragons in Spyro, mostly thanks to Reignited, are referred to as ‘dads’, I sort of go by that, yet also ‘uncles’ as well, seeing as some of them seem more along those type: more distant, yet still participate in educating and guiding the young boy. And there are those that fill more of a ‘big brother’ role: those that’d probably live to tease and bug the little guy, yet also like to show off so that he sees them as ‘cool’. In a way, the girls here would fall into that as well, yet ultimately, it’s a little more limited, seeing as they ARE (in my universe at least) the only ‘women’ left, their roles would be as follows.
Anyte: An aunt who, despite not having any more or less of a role in Spyro’s education, tends to brag and exaggerate of how much she has supposedly influenced him.
Pingyang: Semi-intimidating yet admired big sister. Is indifferent to Spyro at first, yet ultimately, finds it easier to engage with him overtime.
Mim: The kooky aunt who is perhaps a bit too liberal and free-flowing for the likes of those such as Nestor and especially Cosmos. Plus, her insistence in Spyro being her assistant in her work has shown to not exactly be a good idea.
Delphine: An overbearing, yet well meaning pseudo-mother. Hard and strict, yet only because she cares. Has no children of her own, as well as expressing interest in having them, the only living hatchling amongst them is kept under strict watch.
Titania: An aunt mostly in name only, as she isn’t as involved with Spyro compared to the other dragoness’. That said, when she and he do have contact, she wishes to impart onto him some sort of beneficial, sagely advice. Or just advice in general, some of which is outright bizarre and makes no sense to anyone but her.
There’s also the fact that the girls are essentially bachelorettes. And while Spyro’s birth and survival was a success, he’s just only one of a new generation, and, despite the insistence that they’re under no pressure, there are only a handful of eggs and the girls aren’t getting any younger, even with the incredibly slow aging process of dragons. Only thing is, issues of unrequited love, friendships wishing to be maintained, and whether or not marrying outside of one’s own clan are issues that need to be addressed, as while there's not a 'stigma' or 'racist attitude' against other clans, it can't be denied that their ways of life are different from each other.
And really, given Ripto’s dialogue in the 2nd game, it’s indicated there ARE other dragons out there, and unless they want to face another few generations created out of incest, I assume that OTHER ladies were also found out there. They’re just never shown. That could be the subject of a fic though.
Design wise, originally, Anyte was going to resemble something of a renaissance lady, yet I found myself unsatisfied, so I remade it. Given she’s named after a rather prolific Greek poet, I based her more of that. Plus, going along with the green, I made her more ‘siren-like’ and made her a vocalist instead of a poet.
Pingyang has a Chinese flair, with Chun-Li style hair wraps and everything (her horns are under there), yet I added a small marking on her head that was used in Chinese Dynasties as a symbol of beauty. In reality, Pingyang was a badass princess who, believe it or not, took down a whole Dynasty. This tells it better than I could
Mim is obviously just what I said she was, a crazy witch, and her namesake is obvious as well. Hell, her entire design in itself is an echo of Madame Mim’s dragon form, with a little bit of Pete’s Dragon in there.
Delphine, given the Beast Keepers live in swamp, is based on a Cajuin look, as well as a rather notorious reptile that resides in said swamps. Also, while it doesn’t relate to anything, looking up depictions of the Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau helped in the design process. Delphine’s name doesn’t have as much significance as the others, yet it is a name that is or was popular in that area.
Given that Dream Weavers are known for being some of the more out there, less grounded dragon race, I decided to toss out conventions entirely and try something else. Like, instead of a reptile, I turned her into a bug. Her head shape is based on the titular Last Unicorn, and her eyes on Mantis. Her clothing is based on Art Nouveau, and her wings and general look is a combo of both dragon and moth (specifically Luna and Comet moth). Titania is the name of the Queen of the Fairies in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, who, through some shenanigans, falls in love with a man with the head of a donkey.
That was a mouthful.
If you survived all that, thank you so much. If I can ask one more thing of you, please, if you wish to comment (which really motivates me), tell me which girl is your favorite, and perhaps, who you’d think would best fit as their mate?
Thanks again!
