Best part of the movie, hands down. Watching the X-wings kick TIE fighter arse instead of the usual other way around was refreshing.

Fantastic! The light effects are great and you managed to put some displacement effect to the water to express the sense of movement.

I don't know dude, I think these X-Wings look better than the ones in the movie.  Incom T-70A?

These look to be the T-65C's from the old movies. The new ones are T-75s

Hi, I found your image featured on that article www.awardsdaily.com/blog/2015/…

I am the one who modeled that ship, somewhere around 2002, I recognized  it thanks to the pointy things behind the cockpit. I confirm it was supposed to be a Z-95 when I made it. It was for a fan film that was never completed because too many people got actual job in CGI and not enough time to work on it. Back then the z95 had only appeared as a low poly model in the xwing/tie fighter games, so the design was not very [recise, so I had fun with it.
It's cool to see it again, especially with nice textures.

the original model could be downloaded from here (keep in mind it's almost 15 years old) :

Just some info on the model: The Z95 Headhunters, which is what you have here, were the precursors to the X-wings. Both were designed by Incom.

The two craft share a lot of the same tech. However, the X-wing fighters were the first Incom fighter to feature an astromech droid navigation socket and adjustable s-foil wing configuration, which when open forms an X and is how it gets its name. The Headhunter had fixed wing configuration, and thus it was never an "X-wing."  That being said, it could be argued that since the film trailer uses a design of X-wing similar to Ralph McQuarrie's original concept art, that they could be early X-wings. If that's the case, then I see no reason why an unaltered Headhunter couldn't be used for this scene.

thats perfect i will have a closer look later ! Just wondering id there anyway to make realistic plane contrails ? If you type on google WW2 contrails you will see, i am making a scene with a huge formation but i cant make it look good without the contrails ,is hard to paint them proper !

JakeFMVFX In reply to rOEN911 [2015-04-05 22:52:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes there is! If you've heard of "trapcode particular", there are some great ways to make bullet contrails like that! Quickly too!

Check out VideoCopilot.net and their Jet Strike tutorials!

It's ok.
I really dig the criticism on the modern economy and the mass censoring of the artisan crafts but it shows the position very one sided.
I think the painting would really improve if you go a step further than all the posers and actually touch on the fundamental questions in life.

I hope you will improve,
Francoise de la Pari

Love this ! Excellent detail, and the water gushing up is done quite nice. I also love those little antenna/fins just behind/ontop of the cockpit.

All the talk about the Z-95 etc. Was I the only one to realize that the trailer X-wings weren't the same as those seen in the classic movies ?
The split wings don't fold ontop of eachother and fit - if you look closely, their split differently so they interlock in a broader surface.
The Laser weapons of the 2nd set of wings are mounted differently because of that but the end result is still one ontop of the other when closed/opened.
I think that's just J.J. doing his own "Tweak" / signature mark to the X-Wing Design.
