Ancient stronghold, a magical place as long as they could keep it supplied with food and water.

Indeed.  There was a small footpath to the top, very steep. It must have been a laborious task to keep Angelokastro supplied and running.  At the foot of that hill is the place where I captured ...Life...  , by the way!

I can see why they would want to keep that footpath in good repair - and well guarded!
