This is one of my favorites of yours. The position the girl is in is very unique, and her expression seems to tell a story, which is rare for a static image to capture. The skin texture is one of the most beautiful things I've seen in this medium, and the background is breathtaking. A nice background is essential to making a picture like this believable. Wow, what a masterpiece this is. The colors chosen here are in alignment of the girl's expression; they seem to reflect well-guarded sorrow, and the ache of human existence which is highlighted through masterful use of sepia. The red sash is a brilliant device, which, combined with the porcelain skin of the warrior, is the beacon of hope in an otherwise dull and haunting surrounding. Because the sash is so brilliant in hue, I don't think that the girl is fragile, even if her position appears to be defensive, not aggressive. It represents inward strength, the tenacity of character to soldier on when all light has faded from the world and hopelessness is everywhere.

As a fan of Hiroaki Samura's work I must say - this is awesome. It has Blade's feeling, that gloomy atmosphere surrounding Makie fits well as a visualization of her inner disturbance. White skin like a ghost, and the only color appearing on artwork is on her kimono. Depressing... and awesome.
