Description "But they have flowers on them!"

Hassun had been traveling for a long time until he came upon the Snake River Gorge. There he met a doe who offered to shelter him in her home until his strength returned. Hassun became infatuated, and then in love with her. (She was the first doe that really offered him any positive attention) He tried everything he could to win her over, but she didn't reciprocate at first, finding his advances annoying. Hassun realized this, and backed off. His feelings never wavered, but he was willing to wait. Over time Taloa would begin to warm up to the buck, and she in turn fell in love.

A couple years later they would have a daughter. But by the time she was born things were becoming less than ideal, even dire. A dry, warmer than usual winter had caused the river to shrink, and the plant life was dying. Hungry coyotes and foxes prowled along the gorges rim, their hunger driving them to see if any animal life remained close to the river. Realizing this, the little family made plans to move. Hassun offered to scout for a new home, miles away from the gorge in a mountain range to the north. Taloa would stay with Aylen until she got stronger. Before Hassun would return Taloa would die of illness, and Aylen would have fled south. Leaving Hassun heartbroken. He would return to the mountain range, unaware that his daughter still lived.

Awww
this is so sweet... wonderful work. Love the coy expression... this is all so romantic... reminds me of that moment in Spirit between Spirit and Rain

I mean it's still sad, the death and loss... but this moment you've captured is so wholesom

You're welcome so much
Nothing like a good dose of tragedy; putting them through hell so we love them/are all the more happy for them when they pull through!

Heee glad you think so... the quiet part especially fits with this
me too; it's one of my favourites!

Aw, so sweet! But sad. Your characters have such rich backstories. Poor Aylen, though. She's had a few mothers, hasn't she?
