did you use the base and shading in one layer? or did you make it specific for each layer?

I used another layer for the shading so it would not blend yet with the base. Each color on the pallet is placed on a new layer until I gathered the desired skin tone. After I merged them all together and began actually blending them with the watercolor/water tool.
