I saw " The decider of destiny", yes, I did..The dark face of your work/ inspiration: the subject, the posture, the colors as well.. .
All claim: the world isn't very joyful, and as it is, I see and paint it!( Do you know Georges Rouault?...) ....But I know that the other Dirk is somewhere, waiting in the dark...
Now, technically, it's certainly a good work, with a judicious dispatching of ( a little) light and shadow. But so sober!

As my acrylic work of the past months was mostly full of colors, I recently decided I wanted to try out a new color palette; that is one that is more achromatic and sober. This is one of the results (I'm still working on some others too). You know I like to try out different things, styles.. Also, it is, I think, more suitable for the dark themes I regularly express..
Which doens't mean I won't use brighter colors anymore of course.. For instance, I still have to make the last of 4 portraits of my children.
I hope you appreciate this one..
Yes, I know Rouault a bit... Often dark colors but anyway a very 'brut' style ...

Trying to find different styles is a good thing, rather as an impulse than as a method , don't you think so? My own feeling: in your watercolors, any color - clear or dark- irradiate light and life. It's striking. i don't know why.
I would appreciate to watch the portraits of your children. Will you submit them on DA?
Have you heard of those 65 Van Gogh unknown drawings, found out in a french loft? A nice battle around their authenticity....
