Hey Arnold! is a show I believe I was too young for when it came out, but I was certainly the right age for when I found it on YouTube years later. I admire the show’s urban, down-to-earth setting, the diverse cast of memorable characters, and the show’s willingness to tackle heavy subjects, such as parental neglect.

I thought Marianna would work well in the show’s style. Her mental health issues, particularly her eating disorder, would likely be something dealt with extreme tact in the show (which is better than how I’ve been handling it, if I’m honest). No surprise, Helga was my main model for this. Compared to most of the cast, she has a pretty normal-looking design that I thought I could work with. In addition, Helga’s dress worked for making a tank top for Marianna. I used Gerald’s hair as reference for Marianna’s, which also meant that I moved her headband down a bit, finally allowing us to see her bangs.
