Anywho, so this took quite some time, I worked on it a few hours for about two weeks. I don't think I want to really do another sunset/sunrise picture like this again yet. I didn't use greyscale style, because I wasn't sure if it would work as great as normal color/paint as you go does.

There was no reference for the pose. I tried at least 15 other poses before just slamming my head on the desk and pushing through to this one- so sorry for anything anatomically incorrect.

I decided to add a frame to it, in hopes that it would look not so much spacey.

*scratches head* I can't even remember the last time I spoke to you
I stopped playing Horseisle and pretty much let ~HorseIsle run off the tracks, (not sure if you knew I was the person running that). HI2 was gorgeous and had lots of great features but it just wasn't the same for me - too laggy, and too many people. What did you think of it?

Rosela-Kitsuna In reply to oxpecker [2011-01-18 13:42:38 +0000 UTC]

I noticed- that's okay I believe there's another HI group on DA #HorseIsleNanners that's dedicated to HI right now.

It's nice- the horses are more difficult to capture, which is kinda amusing, there's tons of money/subs trading between the two games which (as long as they follow through) isn't against the rules. I get tons of lag- I didn't used to, but recently it's been nuts. The most people I've seen on HI Pinto has been 90 (that was a VERY busy night) It's really a quest oriented game, and it's meant for subscribers with good benefits and no scams.

If you haven't been on HI1 yet, you might not have noticed but we have a different artist. ~SpottedRose
She's decently good- a few draw backs with the horses not having enough contrast, looking a little too similar, and mane issues/animation glitches.

I was checking both HI1 + 2 for a while just to see the new horses - that was always my favourite part of the game. Some of SpottedRose's horses have turned out to be my most favourite of all. And that's another problem with HI2: all the horse breeds are so impressive I can't decide which one is my favourite, let alone which color

Rosela-Kitsuna In reply to oxpecker [2011-01-19 01:53:25 +0000 UTC]

Thats because there are so many at once. There are two artists for Hi2.
Jenny- Friesian, belgian, lipizzan,Shire, AM, American Paint, etc.
Kelly- Warlander,Morgan, Clydesdale, gotland etc.
Once you get used to the styles, you'll begin to notice the difference between the two. I admit Kelly is getting better though, but the manes and lack of proper muscle contrast can be a dead giveaway sometimes.

I currently love the TWH, and still wish they would REDO the friesian. Maybe make it look a little like this.. [link]
Okay not like that shameless promoting!
How about more like this- [link]

Well both images are amazing, the second one looks too much like an arabian though. Somehow I find playing 'The Endless Forest' more peaceful than HI, you don't even have to talk to people XD

Yeah, cept my sign somehow became the same as someone else's. All I know is- I had it first.
I get a bit frustrated sometimes with it though, cuz it's hard to tell if someone just want ta avoid you or your being the one stand-off ish.

that's IF they can hear you or see your icon/symbol on the side!
I probably should put it back on this computer, but I've got tons of work to do and the cats tend to hop on the keyboard randomly.
Dude i went the bathroom and next thing i know the screen rotated 90degrees to the left and the cat opened over 300 tabs.

Yep they can be quite a handful though. Brats... They have a cat tree in my room- it has a little thing that make it so that it's "level" or held by the ceiling. They've knocked it to the corner of my room (and they STILL lay on it!) and proceeded a few nights ago to knock over my mirror- thankfully it didn't break.
BTW- love your crest you made, it makes me want to do one, but I'm pretty fail at it. ( warning, i might use yours as part of a reference- i know mine will have horses, so your inspirational! maybe teke and friesian/pegasus(Xanthus and Melanthios))) How many tries did it take you to create your crest?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

oxpecker In reply to Rosela-Kitsuna [2011-01-20 01:53:32 +0000 UTC]

Thanks I made a base sketch and traced over the sketch with ink - failed about 6 times before getting it right. I'm not really good at technical drawings, symmetry and straight lines and son on. You're welcome to use ideas from mine, and there's also lots of inspiring crests on google. I almost wish I'd made mine simpler.

Rosela-Kitsuna In reply to oxpecker [2011-01-20 02:29:45 +0000 UTC]

No way- yours is amazing!
I've been looking up the meanings behind the symbols. I'm going to do it digitally- so it'll be easier if I mess up completely with having the shield be on a separate layer.

Pegasus- Poetic Genius and Inspiration; messenger of god. (i'll go for the poetic genius, because art is poetic in a sense, and it's a good time for Melanthios to shine)
Horse- Readiness for all employments for king and country
Fox- One who will use all that he/she may possess of wisdom and wit in his/her own defense

I'm thinking the equines will be on the sides facing in, and the fox will be laying on the top, maybe holding part of the ribbon? I haven't thought it through completely yet.
Any Ideas?
If i didn't do it digitally- a ruler would be my best best friend! And even then... I'd die.

I mainly look forward to entering the TIWHA competitions, I love historical re-enactment <3 Sounds like you're putting a lot more thought into it than I did. I love the idea of the fox lying along the top, I've never seen it done before. Can't wait to see it when you're finished

Rosela-Kitsuna In reply to oxpecker [2011-01-20 06:56:56 +0000 UTC]

it got changed to a wolf, I've got lines right now, I just need to figure out what to put in the center. Any ideas now? If you want i can tinypic it to show ya what I have so far- the horses will probably end up being a bit more on the realistic side, I've no real style yet.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

oxpecker In reply to Rosela-Kitsuna [2011-01-20 07:05:25 +0000 UTC]

You can't go wrong with wolves I nearly put a wolf as my shield symbol, but then I changed it to a greyhound. I'd love to see a sneak peek ^^ Hm, maybe the center design could have colours and symbols that represent you - e.g. I saw someone else using the Big Dipper constellation on their shield because it had spiritual significance to her. Or even a totem animal/plant - like the pine cones on my crest symbolize my love for winter, because nothing withstands winter better than pine trees ^^

Rosela-Kitsuna In reply to oxpecker [2011-01-20 07:17:51 +0000 UTC]

[link] - that's what I have so far, no colors down yet- just lines

I put some thought into the meanings of all the things- but only after I put them (except for the tree and the vines, they had thought put into them after looking for ages through this [link] )

Yeah the picture might be a little over realistic but... i can change it a bit in time.

Whoa that's way more amazing than I expected The winged friesian is really awesome, and the vines at the bottom are a lovely touch. What does the motto at the bottom translate to?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rosela-Kitsuna In reply to oxpecker [2011-01-20 11:17:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
I try to not go halfway on fun projects- and it's keeping me from doing homework, that I'll probably get to work on in a bit
You see it feels kinda lacking with nothing in the middle.
Between the vines, there's a little circle, which will be a gem

I was going to have the motto on the ribbon- but the motto was too big no matter how I tried to style it in.
So I might just leave it blank- which happens sometimes in coats of arms.
The motto translates from Italian to English (I double checked to make sure it worked both ways perfectly) find a Light in the Darkness.

oxpecker In reply to Rosela-Kitsuna [2011-01-21 02:13:09 +0000 UTC]

The motto reminds me of Galadriel's gift to Frodo in LOTR, it's very moving.
Oh man I wanna do some LOTR fan-art, so many pretty horses in that series

Oh gosh, i was brain dead when i was trying to figure out a motto.
One was "No job is too small to do beautifully" but it didn't work out in Italian very well. So I just sat on it for a bit, and thought of Light in a Darkness. brainlessness can work sometimes 8D

there are gorgeous horses in LOTR

Aww... well you have a bit more than a month, so if you ever get the motivation...

It's epic that's what it is. I drew Zafire and Rosela on my ~Rosela account, with a little snippity story/dialogue.

What an interesting drawing challenge haha It's so awesome that it has gotten so many artists involved :3
I might think about drawing one of my stable members, although I don't have any jockeys. I own an eventing/hunter jumper stable. I probably won't actually get around to it though. XD haha I have so much that I actually need to work on for my stable. I actually kind of quit it for a while because I find that it has been holding me in an art block for some weird reason.

I know how that feels- the thing with the HARPG i think... for the most part everyone only does quick art- nothing like their normal art... nothing to help them improve; or anything that really practices what they've learned.

Nothing that takes hours like this- unless it's a contest, and even then, some contests are just like "eh... just use a previous race-track background..."

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnimalArtKingdom In reply to Rosela-Kitsuna [2010-10-20 17:26:42 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, I definitely agree. I sometimes just barf up some art for my HARPG stuff. Most of the time I try to find the motivation to try out new shading styles and try to get it as realistic as I can though. I also try to find some new things to keep me motivated.

Someone should create a tutorial that warns you about it!
