Description
Phoenix

It had been nearly a year since Mikayla had gotten the chestnut mare.
The mare had given birth, gained the weight she needed from being so emaciated, and the foal was mostly weaned. Now, it was what Mikayla called crunch time.  They had until January 8th (at least a day before Steph's birthday, so the mare would have plenty of rest before the reveal) to get Phoenix back in showing condition. Mikayla intended to work the mare into an relatively fit state. The mare started out nervous and easily spooked before Mikayla could even put a saddle on her.
She had to go back to the basics in a high-fenced round pen. After hooking up with the mare, going over several days worth of gaining her trust and helping her with her learned fear of bags, whips, and loud noises, the mare was ready to work under saddle again.

"So, do you think you'll give her Ash as well?" Chiron asked, leaning back against the nearby pasture fence.

"If Greg wants to handle a yearling, then sure, but I have a feeling Remmie would be better off being trained up first before we make that decision. For now, Phoenix is the focus"

"You're doing the brand in a few weeks right?"

"Yup. I've got the papers already, proof of lineage, proof of registration, and the extra surprise is already wrapped up and in the closet."

"You've got everything already done then. Damn. Makes me wonder how Mark isn't spoiled." Chiron grinned. Mark was up already, but it was a tuesday and he was home- so he had to go to school.

Phoenix snorted, getting Mik's full attention once more as the mare had slowed and wasn't lagging around a bit. Mik clicked her onwards, stepping forward so the mare stopped looking around and paid more attention to the red-head holding her lead.
