History/Backstory:

Echo exists in an alternate timeline where she replaces Reborn!Maria . She's a result of GUN's laboratory using the DNA of Maria and Mother Wisp to create a bootleg Project Shadow. Echo is not Maria and does not respond to the name. All she knows about Maria is that they share DNA. She does not care for Shadow at all, but she's very loyal towards GUN's Commander to the point where she's considered to be obsessive and dangerous. Due to GUN's scientists growing concerned for the Commander's safety, they left Echo in stasis rather than destroying her, hoping they'd be able to try again another time... until Rouge discovered her and set her free.

The goal was to make another powerful agent (or, more accurately, an attack dog) on par with Shadow as the Commander believed it would be efficient/useful. Echo, technically speaking, was successful, but her responses in tests/experiments were... odd. All Echo would do is stare. She wouldn't answer questions, accept food, do ANYTHING... unless it was from the Commander. They formed a bond because of this, Echo viewing him as a paternal figure of sorts. Although she was nothing like her, the Commander definitely saw Maria in Echo, and grew attached to her in return. It was nice until the end of the day would roll around, or if the Commander had to do something else to attend to (such as a meeting or other work in general), Echo would become anxious and needy, begging him not to leave. Eventually he'd have to depart, whether they liked it or not.

About two months or so into the experiment, Echo grew frustrated with this routine and decided to sneak out of the lab, following the Commander home. She didn't go unnoticed, though. The gem on her choker is actually a tracking device, and it wasn't as if she left with ease. The lab was in ruins and many workers were left with major injuries... they weren't able to warn the Commander until it was too late, she had already made her way into his home. If he were anyone else, Echo would have disobeyed and hurt him, but once he reacted in impatience, anger and fear, Echo grew anxious again. She began begging and pleading with him not to send her away, doing anything and everything she could to manipulate him. She knows he only liked her due to her physical alikeness to Maria, so her goal was to make him want to keep her in his home. This failed, however. GUN's military broke into the Commander's home, apprehending Echo. Normally Echo would fight back, but she was at her lowest point and felt absolutely humiliated. GUN ended up sealing Echo away, similar to the way they sealed Project Shadow away.
