Here comes part two of my comment, since deviantart didn´t allow me to post it as one coherent text, as it considered it spam
Anyway, the fact that there are no sharp outlines in the picture enhances the textures you find in it, but it also adds this beautiful smoothness to the piece, which gives the painting a light and informal appearence without reducing the motif´s overall clearness. Due to the strong lighting the rather two-dimensional and partly almost “geometrical” shapes of her clothes gain a very three-dimensional quality, which is such a cool combination! In general, the style of this painting is highly professional – not only can you perfectly imagine to find the picture in a book as an illustration, but it also tells a story itself and makes you curious about the actual narrative behind the image.
What I love most about the painting, however, is Daphne´s expression. It´s been such a great choice of you to frame her face with her cap and the scarf (and her neat curly hair - and it´s also so cool how the cap´s irregular shape colludes harmonically with that of the scarf!), leaving visible only the most important part – her worried looking eyes and her reddened cheeks (from the cold or from nervousness?). It seems like she´s hiding her face rather than covering it because of the temperature, and you start to wonder what she´s looking so sceptical about, what she´s facing this very moment, which the title reveals, putting the picture in its context. I find fascinating by which means you´re commucating Daphne´s character, how her clothes convey the impression that she´s an extraordinary girl.
The jacket´s simple shape indicates Daphne´s young age and even more so her child-like innocence, as do the mittens and the sweet bobble cap And I like the detail that her bag is lying on the ground because its straps are too long for her ^^ Its design is really creative with the buckle, the dots and the aymmetrcial shape, and so is the foldy one of the shoes that appear to be warm but a bit too big for her - I just love how she seems to get lost in her own clothes And I got to praise the realistically looking frontview of her feet!
Her leftwards tilted shoulders are suggesting her insecurity, for she is leaning away from the school she doesn´t want to attend, and with her hanging-down arms she looks so helpless … eventually, it´s all these small details taken together that make this painting incredibly expressive - and impressive!

I can most definitely understand why this is your favourite piece of yours - I liked it just as much from when I first saw it, I just hadn´t gotten round to critique it until now ^^"
Basically, I love the entire composition and balanced colour pallet of the picture and its incredibly sweet charm
Although the picture shows mainly the contrast between the dominating red and blue tones that I discovered even in her hair and considering the outlines of her eyes, it doesn´t look monochrome, but still really bright!
The blue in the background is just the right colour to capture a wintery atmosphere, and the slightly apparent brushwork makes the air seem moved – I especially love the lighter area directly over the snowy ground, since the realistically painted air twirls have a rather dramatic impact on the viewer and thereby add to the scene, like fog from a machine does to a stage play – moreover, they seem to glow, which makes you almost feel the cold. The spotty snowflakes surrounding Daphne do their bit to the underline the wintery setting, and their irregularity makes them seem really vivid. On top of that, the snow the girl´s standing on looks so real – firstly because of the illusion of depth created by the ground merging with the background, but also due to its uneven surface and the bluish shadows her bag and the girl herself are casting.
I find it interesting that you decided for the light to radiate from the school, which makes me get the impression that she´s “leaving behind” her past, her shadow, and is going to start a new life there.
The metal texture of the buttons of Daphne´s jacket is perfectly conveyed, and so is the pattern of the scarf – I like how it seems as if little snowflakes have gathered in the wool And I love the greyish/bluish and slight lilac colouring of the jacket!

I have to say, although she does look sad and lonely, the snow give a sense of beauty to the piece. The background also really adds to the level of emotion in the piece.
