Description Minor Edit... Cliffs are brighter.

I know this wasn't the top winner in my poll, but I think it is just too good not to post

It is Bad Wolf Bay (Southerndown beach) taken from the rocky side looking towards the beach area. This was taken towards the end of my visit as the sky began to cloud over.

The HDR helps bring out the bumpy detail in the rocks and the dramatic sky. I am going for a stormy appearance hence why it appears dark.

hehe it is an amazing bay. The cliffs behind me in the pic (behind where the photo was taken) were crumbling. There has been some cool erosion and even some landslides... dangerous stuff!

Knowing me, ill still try to get close and personnal, and i am aware of the dangers... but rocks are very cool and deserve close examination! and maybe if i find a good and interesting chunk, ill bring it back home

Rovanite In reply to aoifasd [2010-10-24 11:01:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I got pretty close to the rocks, it's kinda scary when you go close enough to a cliff, look up, and then see it over hanging above you!! arghh, just feel it might fall on me haha...wait that's no laughing matter!

Yeah there a few landslides there some I'm sure you'll be able to find a cool chuck of rock. Also there are quite a few fossils in the rocks too which are cool

I want to go back when the tide is out and use my macro lens to take pics of the rocks beneath the sea with fossils and stuff. Would be some awesome photos

i alwais check for over hangs when i get close to cliff. if a chunk falls on you, it isnt usually very forgiving. Most of the time, i do wear a safety helmet., although in costume ill probably wont.

There are fossils? hummm interesting, do you know what kind? what do they look like?

May i ask you a question: what do you do for a living?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rovanite In reply to aoifasd [2010-10-24 19:37:51 +0000 UTC]

The fossils mainly look like shells. I've only ever seen a few as I haven't really looked for them before.

I'm currently a student in my final year studying BSc (Hons) Business Info Systems-Multimedia. I'm kinda a photographer for my uni at the mo, but I'm just randomly being a student at the mo..as you do! I want to possibly start a photography business after uni, just gotta hope im good enough and can make it in that area you?

shells are alwais good. it would have been interesting if it would have been fish or trilobite

As for me, hummm

i finished university 5 years ago in geologicla engineering, meaning i love rocks and minerals. rocks are definitly cool, as are bow ties. i am now at my third professional job. My first job was a a field technician in environmental studies. i lasted there about 2 years, until the economy went down a bit, and i ended up losing my job. although i strongly suspect someone back stabed me as well. But, it is still alright since i was getting tired of doing field work, playing in mud, and putting my hands into unknown subsantices. My second job was as a data analyser in geophysics. At first it was cool! until i realised, i am missing a LOT of mathematical knowledge to fully understood what i was doing (unfortunatly, i am no genius). After 2 years of that, i also got tired ( kind of), and the world recession struck. My employer decided to put me out of work until new contracts could come. But, after 6 months of waiting, i got tired of being home, i searched for a new job. It took me about 2 weeks, and i landed one. the job consisted of being a project manager in environmental studies. The rank after technician LOL. i stayed there for 1 year, then i quit. The philosophy of the company was not compatible with what i wanted and with my personnaly life, so i was very miserable there. i searched for a new job, and when i got one, i quit the one that was making me so darn unhappy. that was when i discovered doctor who so i explained my csotuming events to my new employer and the fact that i would need some time off here and there along the year, and he told me cool, no problem. so i have been a project manager in this new company for 2-3 months and i have been feeling wayyyy better. adn getting better paid too

Over all i have worked mostly in environmental studies after my university. i have been active in the field of convention organising as well and convention in general, hence me needing a few days off here and there so i can travel to convention that are a bit further away.

i dont dislike my job, but let say that i dont think i needed 6 years of university to do that....... which is a bit sad really... anyone with a good head on his shoulder could be trained to do what i am doing in about 3-4 monhts. that kind of depresses me a bit. But i do have an understanding employer, which is a very BIG plus.

what does Business Info Systems-Multimedia intales (probably wrong spelling)?

Rovanite In reply to aoifasd [2010-10-30 21:44:38 +0000 UTC]

wow you've tried quite a few different jobs! But fair doos, if it becomes boring or whatever then you may aswell look for something you are happy with But it's cool you found a job which you like at the moment

Two yrs ago I started a HND (Higher National Diploma) in Business Info Technology. which basically involed multimedia (web design, flash animations etc), programming, and some other business related classes like, writing business plans, learning about informations systems, networks and even a law module (which seemed random, but I think it was about contracts and stuff).

This year I jumped into the 3rd (final) yr of my BSc degree as the HND is basically the first 2 yrs. One of the modules/classes I'm doing this year is called Project Management, which the lectures seem boring but the practical side it quite fun to do. A lot of the lectures I do are quite boring (which sounds bad as I chose the course).

Business Info systems is bascially looking into how computers work and the business side of management. So this year my modules are: Ethics of Info Systems, Project Management, Info Systems in Busniness and finally multimedia (which is the one I chose, all the rest were compulsory for this year). So this year is more theory than the past years and more focused on the business side of this, whcih for me sucks as I like the computer side of things more but at least I have multimedia and my dissertation to keep me happy with that side of things!

This is turning out to be a long message! sorry if it's boring!, I can write tons sometimes without even knowing it lol

i dont mind long message

what kind of job do you envision after yrou studise? you are a very talented photographer

i am more or less a photographer too, although i do prefer to be in front of tha camera then behind. i use a nikkon D40.

i read the other comment, and i do agree that the sky looks... ominious (bad spelling), very dark and foreboding.
To me it looks like something very bad will happen there soon.

i am also a huge whovian now. discovered the good doctor this summer.

After uni I am going to try an start a photography business, so I just gotta hope that takes off. If that fails then some job to do with IT, like web design (usability/accesability type thing) or just something IT related in general.

Ah you are the opposite of me! I prefer to be behind the camera taking photos of other people. I always feel strange in front of the camera, so I leave that to people who want to be photographed

Oh that's cool, so you're a big fan of Harry Potter?

Scotland is cool, miles and miles away from me though! I should (hopefully) have my business started by august next year, but we'll see. I don't have a studio or anything, but if I did I would defo take photos of you! Maybe next year I'll have one (unlikely given prices of places here ) but we'll see...

aoifasd In reply to Rovanite [2010-11-03 15:02:45 +0000 UTC]

i like Harry Potter, but my friend is a big Fan. She will bring or student uniform with her, jsut like i will bring my brown suit and coat with me

i havent planned anything as of yet, but we definitly want to see London, Cardiff, Scotland....

Even if you dont have a studio, an outside location is good too i usually prefer that to a studio shoot, gives more atmosphere, even if it gives the photographer a lot more job to do. i am someone who poses in the moment, and the surroundings help me a lot to create an image in my mind and a mood.

At the end of august, what kind of weather does England get? hot? cold? rainy? stormy?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rovanite In reply to aoifasd [2010-11-09 20:48:25 +0000 UTC]

Cool stuffs.

Yeah I like taking photos outside. The only thing I hate in summer is if the sun is really strong as it messes with the photos and can cause problems by either people being blinded or you get harsh shadows.

Ah british weather is very unpredictable. August is technically supposed to be one of the hottest months, but it still rains, get strong winds, sun...anything really (apart from snow! lol). one year we didn't really even have a summer (totally sucks)

Cool stuff. Yeah, well, July/August is meant to be the warmest, but it's not always the case. Oh well, I guess that's what is cool (but at the same time annoying) about our weather lol

That's weird. I got an email it's been shipped. You'd expect the artist would get a notice and the main part of the money. Ah well, maybe you'll get a notification soon.

Beautiful pic, it symbolizes Doctor Who and everything about it. Well, the first four seasons that is.

Hey! I have the notification now Thank you!

Ah yeah, I think I get about 20% of whatever is paid for the prints. So it's more than I had yesterday lol

Thank you for liking it. It's one of my fave pics that I have taken of Bad Wolf Bay. It's even in my printed portfolio

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anne264 In reply to Rovanite [2010-06-25 20:45:30 +0000 UTC]

Only 20%? Wow, I thought something like 60-70%.

Anyway, I love the photo! I've browsed your portfolio some more and you're a great photographer, respect. What camera/lens do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rovanite In reply to Anne264 [2010-06-25 20:56:42 +0000 UTC]

Yup, 20%.. I wish it was more! lol But like I said, it's something I didn't have yesterday so it's all cool

I use a Nikon D80 and a D300. I have a few different lenses (which I will list if you want?? lol But generally I use different lenses for different things, like macro, wide angle, zoom etc

Just curious as a fellow photographer. ^_^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rovanite In reply to Anne264 [2010-06-26 18:50:52 +0000 UTC]

lol fair enough! In case you did want to know: I use:

Nikon 18-70mm most of the time.
Sigma 70-200mm (f2.8 throughout the zoom)
Tamron 90mm Macro f2.8
50mm Nikon (fixed) f1.8

I recently bought a Nikon 10-24mm super wide angle lens, but i'm having some problems with it. It's making photos a bit blurry when photographing landscapes and stuff, think I need to take a look at it!

I just realised, I have too many lenses lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anne264 In reply to Rovanite [2010-06-26 20:32:16 +0000 UTC]

Those are extremely nice lenses! And indeed a lot, you lucky one!

Keep on photographing, love your work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rovanite In reply to Anne264 [2010-06-27 08:31:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeh they are decent lenses. I generally use the 18-70 most. The zoom lens I only really use for sports which I do when I'm at uni. And the Macro I generally only use in summer time. The others are just randoms. I got the 50mm free when I bought my camera which was cool, so technically I didn't buy it lol

Thank you again! Your work really great too!
