Description
First seen in Star Trek TNG episode Best Of Both Worlds, the New Orleans Class Frigate was 340 meters long and housed 550 crew members. Launched in 2327, it was one of the first ships in a new generation of designs entitled "Project Galaxy." It was outfitted with three outboard pods, two on the saucer and one at the bottom of the secondary hull, which can launch either torpedoes or space probes. This enabled it to be rather heavily armed for a ship of its size, and ships of this class, such as the USS Rutledge, proved themselves in the Cardassian Border Wars of the early 24th century. The Battle of Wolf 359 however, brought its legacy to an abrupt halt, as it showed that this ship was of little use when dealing with The Borg. Nevertheless, they continued to serve with distinction, even through the Dominion War, albeit this time from behind the lines, before it was finally phased out in the 2390s. Its legacy however, will carry on in the form of the Lafayette Class, an early 25th century version of this iconic ship.
Remastered version of this ship, now with new lore and improved lines. Perhaps the most notable change is the addition of an undercut in the secondary hull, which the original didn't have. I like this ship, and opinion-wise, it's very underrated.
