Description Another sophomore year final! "Two animals interacting, painted in watercolor"...I kinda failed the interacting part, but I learned a heck of a lot about my new watercolor set. Not sure if it was the board I was using (Crescent cold press) or the paints (Utrecht brand), but they would not lift out when I tried to pick up some of the colors. So um. Will experiment with that this summer.

I think this turned out amazing. I especially love the subtle blends of cool blues for shading without having it to take much away from the main color and actual form. It stayed very crisp! I'm not sure how one would do that without masking fluid or a really steady and or swift hand.
Awesome job. <3

Interesting that it looks like they're on the same team. 'Team'? Hehe. I love the shadows.

I realized after a few paint layers that they aren't quite...a'hmm...interacting. Looks more like they're going to join forces and take down the Mongols or something. BETTER PLANNING IS NEEDED NEXT TIME, methinks.

Absolutely gorgeous; great poses, color palette, and style . Your color transitions/washes are so smooth! Which I find to be very much enviable.

I am thinking that it is the crescent board that kept your pigment from lifting off. I'd only tried the hot press version myself, and that positively hated me using watercolor on it!

Oh jeez, hotpress. I could never get a feel for that stuff no matter what media I tried with it- blechh!

Thank you so much for all the compliments! Now I'm all inspired to do more straight watercoloring; it usually falls victim to my rabid mixed media tendencies. This is probably the only just watercolor thing in my entire gallery.

Gotta catch back up with your art! I kinda fell off of the e-art scene for a while there

I'm turning out to be the opposite: I've made so many serious attempts at working with coldpress papers in the past few months, but when it comes time for me to add new layers... oh, how it hates me! I'm far from being accomplished in the medium of watercolor, so it's very possible the problem is entirely my fault. I do like using coldpress for beautiful soft washes, like you did here. And it usually lifts so nicely!

Mixed media is an awesome thing (you get the best of all mediums!), but since I myself have the same tendencies, I know what you mean when you talk about trying for something that is a single medium. (For me, I think it may have been close to a year since my last attempt.) SO. I hear you there.

You did disappear for a bit... and I recognized your work, which is why I really wanted to leave a comment! I also wanted to say that I seriously envy your creativity, especially in regards to characters and their designs. It's like a breath of fresh air.

MAN what a cool, clean technique! It better occur to me to paint in shapes next time I try watercolor.

This just looks super good. Are the gradients just you going over it in a different color? Annnnd is that salt in the background I see

Watercolours are by far my favourite medium to work with and admire. You've done a fantastic job here. I love the blending of the colours on the two figures and the linelessness of it all. It's reminiscent of papercuttings, which are also lots of fun!

Ah, thank you so much, Isiriu! I was quite inspired by this artist while composing this image, which really shows in the flattened shapes. c:

Eee, I certainly will once I get more comfy with the paints! For some reason I've always felt more at home with watercolor than any other paint...

I want you to know that I love this. The shaping on the tiger and boar is beautiful. The water colors are also lovely. Teach me your ways...;-; I love the result that water colors give, but have like, no idea how to use them.

If I wasn't leaving on the last Friday of school, I'd say we should have a watercolor party over the weekend, but alas. :c

Thank you so much, though, Di!
