Sometimes, while making these graphite drawings, I'm tempted to go photorealistic - as many artists seem to do these days. Also, graphite is really suitable for that kind of a finish. But then I'm discouraged, since I don't seem to see the point of it. Photorealism requires a great deal of skill and almost meditative patience, but in the end all art tend to look the same.

When I look at a drawing or painting, I like to get a hint of the creative process, an 'organic presence' of the artist - wonderment at the finished product is of less importance to me. The artist's mood, his attitude, his elan (so to say), is often revealed in the tiniest of brushstroke, in a little glob, a careless dribble, unconsciously left somewhere..., in the casual imprecision of it all - at the same time showcasing great skill and artistic knowledge. This is what I look for in art (I'm not considering the content at this moment). A photorealistic finish, however spectacular, robs me of that thrill.
