The design on Zuzu's armour reminds me of a peacock. I have a fish named Zuko.

If I remember correctly most Chinese dipictions of a pheonix have it with the crown of a peacock and the tail feathers of a peacock as well.

Yeah I know it's a name of a Chinese dish (it's one of my hubby's favorite dishes), but it is also to reference Chinese wedding traditions where male and female are sybolised as a Dragon and a Phoenix.

Now this I didn't know... just what is the story behind the symbolism of this, if you don't mind my asking?

Here is some of it
Chinese dragon and phoenix are the perfect couple which symbolizes Yang (dragon )and Yin (phoenix ) in feng shui. Phoenix alone takes Yang character but when phoenix gets together with dragon or placed beside a dragon, it becomes Yin.
Dragon and Phoenix couple symbolize emperor and empress and they represent a happy marriage blessed with success and prosperity. The Dragon and Phoenix couple brings not only strengthens relationships. It can even relight the fires of a kindling relationship with the fiery energy of the Phoenix.
