Description This was taken yesterday, on my first trip to the coast, in Carmel California. I got a face full of salt water to bring you this image. I had a good time, took many photos, but this one is my favorite.

What kind of camera do you use? I am currently using just a simple digital one - since I am only a hobbyist photographer & not a professional one. I am wondering what good professional cameras there are out there so when earn up to buy one I have some good advice.Β

My camera:Β

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150. It's about 2 years old. It's an extremely good purchase and IΒ recommendΒ you buy this one if 1.) You take care of your personal property, NEVER dropping things, and 2.) You can afford a semi-professional or low-end-professional camera.Β

Tech specs:Β 12.1 Megapixels Digital Camera. Hybrid CMOS Sensor. 24x Optical Zoom. Permanent lens. Hot shoe (for adding professional powered accessories). Stereo mic. Mega zoom. Slow motion video.

Pro:

My camera is semi-professional class, offering ease of use without the extreme expense of external accessories. It comes with the lens and flash, which professional cameras often don't. Still, I bought a remote control.

Weighs half as much as a professional camera. Making my neck feel WAY better.

As of two years ago (and maybe still today), my camera and a near-identical Cannon camera are the highest pixel clarity (zoom included) and contain the most features for a semi-professional camera. Meaning it's the very best around-town camera, and anything better weights a LOT and costs twice as much. This is according to many reviews I've read.

Con:

My light sensor is slightly smaller than a professional camera, making intricate hair photos and dark room photos less or equal to many professional cameras. Small light sensor means dark rooms are a little more grainy.

My lens is sadly permanent, but I can attach extra lenses and filters to it. The most common filter being one which makes the sky far more blue.Β

Current Amazon price: New $400.00 USA Dollars. Used $350.00 USA Dollars.Β

Buy at: www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC-F…

If you're okay using a large camera you have to "lug around", and are not a butter fingers at all, then my camera may be ideal for you. I wear mine like a purse, and when in the car I place it in a foam anti-static bag.

Thanks! That definitely sounds like a great camera to me - and definitely in the price range I am looking for. Thanks for taking the time to give me the breakdown on your camera. That is probably the most complete information I could have gotten anywhere - and I am glad someone was willing to put in the time so it could all be in one place My camera I bought 4 years ago - it was only around a hundred dollars - but I treat my camera like my baby - I'm a little bit possessive of my electronic toys cause it usually takes me a long time to earn up for them and I always pay in cash. Thank you again

Lol on the word play. I had taken many photos of splashes, I wish I had used a higher resolution camera so I could sell this as a print. I have a nice camera these days though. Because my camera at the time had almost no zoom on it, I was near the water hoping my camera didn't get splashed. It got little water drops on it...huge mistake, but it survived.Β

Thanks. And had I the money I would definitely buy your print of that photo - I love it! When I finally buy my own house (and have the space to put things on the wall) I want to cover the walls with the cool art I am finding on deviant - especially ocean photographs. Glad it survived as well

I think science is magical. I am studying chemistry in school - and all the cool things the elements do - the more I learn and understand the scientific principles beneath how the elements behave the more magical it is to me. Some people think science ruins the magic of a moment; I love something even more the more scientific principles I understand about it.Β

In direct critiquing of the art itself though - to be to the point - the way you captured it with your photography is absolutely skilled and makes looking at the water that much more enjoyable. You are a skilled photographer. Touche

Did you know that scientists have observed that Uranium only decays when humans aren't observing it? There is so much about science that we puny little humans still don't understand - and we get our whole lives to discover it! But not all of it. "Scientists" 405 years ago laughed at Galileo and feared the telescope he worked on because they thought it was devils magic. Because they couldn't understand that there were scientific principles beneath how it operated - they feared it. Everything in our time will one day be explained by science. We will find new things tomorrow though - that will be explained only hundreds of years away. I figured that it was safe using the terminology "magickal" since we no longer live in the time period where science has not explained water. Sorry for the ineffective terming which portrayed something other than I had intended.

I am after all - a Science major & not an English major! Don't have a perfect thesaurus in my head. Science after all, also uses terms which are not regularly carried out in colloquial conversations, and instead of using one term to describe observations, it has to use many to be more exact!

Sorry for being so long winded. I freaked out when I thought I got misunderstood - and I actually have the disorder OCD so sometimes I overattempt to explain myself when I am afraid of being misunderstood & therefore rejected. I tried to erase all my stupid comments - but am now discovering as a new member on deviant that you apparently cannot erase your comments on others' feeds. Lesson now learned - do not be long winded on deviant art - you can't come back from a comment you wish you hadn't posted.

No worries buddy. I love science. I have a little OCD, but it's caused by general anxiety. While I love science, personally I'm a Christian so any mention of the word "Magic" makes me wonder what exactly is being said. I don't believe in many kinds of magic, and I don't believe in ghosts, I simply believe everything the Bible teaches. I live and breathe the Bible. Everyone has the free will to have their own belief system, and that's part of what makes deviantArt such a fun community.

Thanks for being really understanding. I am glad also someone else on here knows what actual OCD is. It was really nerve wracking to come out about that - but I was having a little meltdown about my posts and my husband suggested that I simply put it out there that I have this disorder to explain my paranoid behavior at least somewhat. Also - I think Christians are really cool - although I am not one - my husband is, and I think it has worked surprisingly well having a diverse family like this - I think we are both very accepting and open minded because of this experience. - I like your views - you seem like an awesome human And it's so funny - I was worried I would be dashed to pieces in replies because of my comments. Thank you again for being so kind.

aww thanks so much hon.
you made my day improve greatly because of your kind comment. <3
im not a very good protographer so to get that water shot i had to stand out in the freezing waves and it was pretty dangerious because the rocks were slippery and i literly had to dive out of the way a few times but i didnt get soaked. my friend scotty tumbled down some rocks but he didnt brake anything. i wish i had a better camera, but if i did theres no way i would take it out into the water!

thanks.. i was just messin around with my old camera, it has low pixel quality, but i liked the position of the water. when i go back to the coast in a few weeks im going to take my new camera and get much better photos. im not sure if i'll be able to get down into the water again tho, the camera is too expensive, and the shot is kinda dangerous.
