I didn't read the description fully yet and don't feel well enough to do o right now, but I haven't watched Being Ian in a while. I kind of do like the show but it can be hard to watch due to Ian being mistreated and misunderstood (at least that's how I see it as fa as my memory serves me.) All I know is I feel sorry for Ian. And his to older brothers are me-e-ean, especially the eldest.
I like being Ian, I at least like the character and maybe I just might do fanart for that cartoon, but it's a hard cartoon for me to watch, hard to watch without getting upset! But I would like to watch every episode.
I have it on my Cartoons Unlimited App. I cannot remember which episode I got to and thing keep happening on Cartoon Unlimited to make me have to start over again (like the serves not working, videos not playing and having to switch sources, and the App resetting so that it seems like the episodes I did watch weren't watched.) So I'm far from finished watching the series due to all these setbacks!
Cartoons Unlimited App is available in the Microsoft Windows Store and works best with Windows 10. I highly recommend it!

Thanks for the fave Being Ian's one of the shows I remember quite fondly and vividly from a while back. Needless to say, it's one of my favourites. Though I know what you mean by Ian being treated like crud from time to time--often it's from his brothers Kyle and Korey, but even some of his own friends have their moments of jerk-itude. It can be easy to feel bad for him.
With that being said, Ian still manages to get payback at them from time to time. For example, I still remember the ending of that beach episode ("Bad Day at White Rock") where all three Kelley boys are dozing off at the back of the car and we get a glimpse into each one's dream bubble. We then get to Ian...who whispers to the audience that he's "not really dreaming"--right before slapping (I think) both Kyle and Korey in their own dreams and making each of them think the other one killed their own sleepy fantasies.
Nice.
All in all, though, I still liked it and found it fun to watch. Besides, it's not everyday you see a cartoon set in/near your own hometown (and considering the amount of film and TV productions in the Vancouver area--that don't actually take place in Vancouver--it's quite refreshing).

"Besides, it's not everyday you see a cartoon set in/near your own hometown"
Yeah! I'm yet to see a cartoon that take place in Gary, Indiana, probably will never happen seeing how run-down, polluted, dangerous, and infamous that place i! I'm also yet to have a cartoon take place mostly in Tuscon, AZ, although an episode of Postcards from Buster took place there, and on an episode of Fairly Odd Parents, Timmy's father mentions Tucson, AZ, only they don't go there, they end up on some volcanic island! But I'm yet to have a cartoon that take places in or near Tucson!
My other favorite Canadian animated shows are:
- Braceface (Josh is my most favorite character in that show!
This is my fanart of him www.deviantart.com/willm3luvtr…)
- What About Mimi?
- Carl 2 (sort of!)
- Franklin
- Caillou
- Detentionaire
- and more I could list!
I like Canadian cartoons! I thought I'd like "What's With Andy?" though and I did manage to watch it to the last and final episode but I don't think I'll be watching that cartoon again anytime soon due to the behavior and negative influence of that character that does almost nothing but prank people to their anger and high annoyance, and his punishments! But some of it is funny though, like that raccoon that saw that shiny object Andy found at the land fill! Or when Andy's father talks in his sleep about Carol and then his real wife sternly asks him "Who's Carol?!"
But I like more than just American cartoons! I like Canadian cartoons, British Cartoons, French Cartoons, Australian Cartoons, and some Korean Cartoons! But I'm not a fan of Anime, I prefer Western Animation to all else!
Gonna go now, I'm nothing but a rambler!

Happy to hear you like Canadian cartoons Many of them tend to get a bad rep for various reasons nowadays. I myself don't watch a whole lot of Anime either (at least not as much as I used to), but I watch a lot of cartoons.
As for the possibility of seeing your places in a cartoon, I'd say it's possible. I mean, there's always a creative opportunity around every corner; someone just has to mine for it and put it out for people to see. And every place on Earth is unique in its own way, and thus provides an individual log line gold mine of its own. I'm sure there are many themes to be explored in places like Tucson or Gary--in the latter's case, even with the conditions you mentioned. Even with non-adult cartoons creators have found many ways to incorporate a wide variety of settings as backdrops, sometimes even including the most mature themes in subtle (or not-so-subtle) ways; IMHO, this makes them quite interesting and I have a lot of respect for those that manage to pull this off quite well.
So yeah, it's always possible for your place to become a setting; someone just has to have that spark of imagination, that one great idea for a cartoon, and run with it. Anyone and everyone's got to have at least one interesting story to tell--so maybe you have that spark!
PS: Don't worry--I think I'm also a slight rambler. I tend to write a lot to try to convey a lot of information and address possible questions that may arise, all in a manner that's as respectful and accessible as I can be. Ergo, it usually takes me a while to write anything down, and an even longer time beforehand to think. And as shown on this comment's time stamp above, I still somehow find places to edit
