Description Ok then, this is a sketch I'm working on of Captain Ahab on fancy background and a great big bushy beard! He's still a work in progress but I've hit a wall so any critiques I can get, or any help would be great and if not well....then I guess I keep going? It's terrible for design to keep noodling so Imma back off this one for a bit...I dunno...

I think he deserves a very large hug. ^ ^

But anywhooo, fantastic character design. Sketches are so much more interesting to look at then a finished piece of work.

Hum....No I kinda like him. I think he's cute <3 It's the beard and the top hat that does it for me. XD.

This guy's actually looking really good! I love the texture of it and the mood...he really looks like he comes from another time. A bit intimidating, too.

A couple of things I noticed... His left-hand shoulder (his right shoulder, viewer's left) looks like it's too far down, even in the position it's in. The straight shoulder of the overcoat looks like it's in the middle of his rib cage. (I know foreshortening is a huge pain to get right!)

The other thing is his left arm (viewer's right) looks a bit small and skinny right now. I imagine it will be thicker once you get the coat sleeve sketched in, but it's too short. At the angle you've got it, we should be seeing more of its length than this...it looks a bit stubby.

A good trick I learned from someone is to flip the drawing so that it's backwards...if it's digital, that's easy to do. It isn't traditional, you can use a mirror (awkward) or scan the drawing and used a program to flip it. It helps you see things that are wrong with the drawing--it's like getting a fresh perspective on it.

And if you already knew that...then never mind! LOL

Anyway, his face is awesome, and the expression on it is even better. Good luck!

Awesome, thank you so much! yeah its a bit tough figuring out how to work in his jacket since he and his jacket are bigger. I'm trying to use my brother as a model but its hard working out the size difference between the two. But thanks for the help and the nice words!
