Description     So here's my second OC for Overwatch, this time they're evil~! Introducing Puppetress, starring in the defense roster of the character selection. Iona Meyer is a Scottish engineer who's always had love for creating dolls and machines. However, she has a deep hatred for omnics. Since they have a consciousness of their own, she has no control over them; Iona's all about control. Her backstory goes as this...

When Iona was a little girl, she always loved playing with her dolls. Making stories of their lives, creating alternate plots for their adventures, or making new dolls for new worlds. Once she discovered she had a knack for machinery, she pursued a life of mechanical engineering. Her talent didn't go unnoticed and she was hired into an omnium company to design and build omnics; at a young age too. She worked within the omnium for a few years, until the omnic crisis occurred. She had no clue what had happened, all the omnics had caught her off guard, all she knows now is that the omnium burned along with her colleagues. And she knows that the omnics are to blame. Iona took on the name Puppetress once she figured out an adaptable body-controlling device. She'll use this to start changing people's views about omnics, that they aren't as innocent as they appear to be. Puppetress plans make a new story for the world.

Alrighty, so Puppetress is a defense character, a very unforgiving defense character in my honest opinion. She has her "Curtain Call" gun for her to use as her way to attack. Her two specials deal with traps. Her first special for trapping comes in two phases; First phase is placing a trip laser in an area, then the player is frozen in place, then you must find a wall/ceiling/floor to place a marker. When the laser is tripped, the marker will send out a cable and it will attach to a player and pull them to that marker. Think of it as RoadHog's hook... but more trappy. I can imagine someone placing this marker right above the edge of the map and the enemy player just falls into the deep abyss. Her second trap is her puppets, she can place a puppet to patrol a small area. When an enemy approaches the puppet, the puppet will latch on the player and start to slowly drain their health. The enemy player will then need to go to one of their allies to have them punch it off. Pretty horrifying so far, huh? Well it's gonna get even scarier with her ult. With her ultimate, "Show Time", she sends out her Control Pack (Yes, you will need to be in range of an enemy, or else you'll miss and lose the ultimate charge) and it will hopefully latch onto an enemy player. What does it do? IT TAKES CONTROL OF THE ENEMY PLAYER AND YOU CAN USE THEM TO WIPE OUT THE OTHER TEAM! The control pack even works with an enemy's ult. So Puppetress can trigger the enemy player's ult and just mow down the team, all the while the controlled player has to watch them eliminate their allies.

I told you she was unforgiving. I honestly think she has a bit more variety in her gameplay than my first Overwatch OC, Cat's Eye. Doesn't mean I don't like him anymore, but I can see Puppetress being a possible character in Overwatch more than I do Cat's Eye. Seriously though, think about it, everyone would be scared of her. Maybe... I don't know, I'd definitely be sad if I were to see my Reinhardt start beating me to death with his hammer, probably saying something like, "Can't. Control. HAMMER!"

Anyways, questions are always good for developing characters, so feel free to send them. Have a nice day!

EDIT: I realized I spelled her name wrong on this, I'll fix that soon... (EDIT 2: Fixed)

So what, is she a merc? I don't see her with Talon nor do I see her with Overwatch.

She's sided with Talon, but for her own personal gain in eliminating omnics. She kind of mooches off whatever tech they have and uses it to wander off and cause trouble without Talon's knowing.

I imagine Reaper's keeping tabs on her "extracurricular work", similar to how he does with Sombra.

Wow, She looks amazing, like a true aristocratic villain... (notices the tiny omnics hanging on her belt)... Oh gosh!! So creepy! Overall an amazing design.

Her design is so cool, she looks really sinister!  Her powers are (from what little I know) really different and unique from the other characters!  Plus, I gotta mention I love her expressions in the two sketches at the bottom, so smarmy omfg I love it

p.s. can I just say how much I adore her hair??  It reminds me of that waterbending guy from Legend of Korra, it's amazing

Thanks!

P.S. Omg, you're right. Now I can't help but imagine her getting a blast of water to her face after an attempt at melee.

From a gameplay perspective, I think her ult would be a little too much. Unless the controlled player is controlled by an A.I. or the effect lasts like 3 seconds, I have a feeling it could completely destroy the game, mostly because there isn't anything anyone can do to reliably counter it.  If Spies for TF2 have taught me anything, it's that characters based around inciting paranoia in the enemy with unpredictable and devastating abilities feel very cheap and are overall not very enjoyable to fight against. Spies are already a ginormous pain in the ass with their ability to pose as an ally to get past defenses and instantly kill you from behind, the last thing we need is someone who can all of a sudden turn one of you allies into an enemy and wipe your whole team with you being able to do little in retaliation.

Right as I read your comment, I realized that I forgot to mention that I was thinking of ways to counter her ult. Allow me to braindump my ideas...

So, first thing to mention before I go any further, her ult is susceptible to being halted by anyone; which means even her teammates can ruin her ult. If they shoot and eliminate the controlled player before the enemy team has been fully eliminated, it will break her ult. Also, about the spy thing, this ult is anything but subtle, when she triggers her ult, it plays an obvious music box tune and she laughs maniacally. If the control pack manages to take over a player, a bright flash and a stinger cue will play near the controlled player. I think this might give the enemy team enough time to realize, "Crap, I gotta focus my fire on my teammate." So, about the ways to counter the player, I've been thinking make the controlled player's health drop faster. But, I don't know, that would only be good with tanks, see as they have all the health. If the control pack were to somehow land on a Zenyatta, giving them a weaker health bar might be too frustrating to try to attack the enemy team. Another alternative is to make the player slower. But yet again, this might be frustrating for the Puppetress player to deal with. I don't want her ult to end up being frustrating to deal with. Besides, like I said, the controlled enemy has to go up against not only 5 enemy players, but your own team that might not know your plan. Not only that, but the Puppetress player has to throw it right in order to actually land on an enemy player, if that wasn't already hard enough.

Ah, well, that's my spiel.

Abilities like those are incredibly hard to balance, so developers simply don't bother with them.

Well not everything can be fair. Roadhog's oneshot hook tactic for example. It gets terribly frustrating for the victim while it's lifesaving for the Roadhog. I find myself having no chance of escaping that move and it feels unfair. It may be a challenge, but it's most likely possible to balance out this ult. Besides, ultimates are supposed to be there to frustrate the enemy, it's hard not to make them frustrated.

You have to remember, there's a difference between "frustrating" and "completely fucking broken". Roadhog's hook is frustrating as all hell, yes, but there are ways to get around it, like playing a tank or blocking the hook. McCree's flashbang + fan-roll-fan combo, on the other hand, was completely fucking broken before getting nerfed. It's still a pretty big pain in the ass, but like Roadhog's hook, playing a tank can effectively counter it now. And ultimates always have a reliable way to counter them. If an ultimate leads to a team kill, it's the fault of the victim team for not effectively dealing with it. It must be possible to deny an ultimate the ability to change the game to prevent it from also breaking the game. That's one of the problems people had with Genji's Dragonblade. It lasted for so long and dealt so much damage, combined with Genji's already insane mobility, that it lead to several team wipes regardless of how well the victim team tried to stop it. The ability to counter it depended on how good the Genji was. A Zenyatta ult could hamper it, sure, but since Dragonblade lasted longer than Transcendence, someone was still going to die, usually the other support. However, thanks to the nerf to both the ult duration and Genji's mobility, the ult is now much easier to deal with. Basically, you want to avoid making something that could change the game easily without retaliation, since those aren't fun to go up against.

Whew, what a rant. All of this talk about overpowered abilities is triggering Splatoon flashbacks. Now that game had some completely fucking broken weapons.

I would say yes that Roadhog's hook can be countered, and this might just be me, but there's a a 10 percent chance that this Roadhog will hesitate in eliminating you. Yeah, tanks have larger health than other characters and McCree can counter him, but I find myself being oneshoted regardless of what I do. You can't really avoid it unless the Roadhog somehow pauses before killing you. I've actually tried this with Roadhog before, I find it easier to just hold R2 while hooking your enemy and then you're set. Puppetress' ult in my mind is easily countered because what if there's barely any teammates nearby? What if you fruitlessly chase a Tracer and it takes the player where they don't want to be? Or what if you had to face against 5 team members that are all pointing their weapons at you? What if one of the enemy's allies has their ult charged and uses it on the controlled enemy? In fact, now that I'm saying these things, I'm thinking there are way too many things that could go wrong with her ult unless there's a chance that the enemy player had their own ult charged. I will say that you have a point in that it's unfair for a player to turn on their team, but like Genji, it just seems like it depends on the player. I am legitimately starting to think it might be unfair to the Puppetress player than the enemy team and that might actually be the problem.

Good on you for the rant though. I didn't know Splatoon could be that broken, never played it in my life though. XD

Splatoon is pretty similar to Overwatch, and might have served as inspiration for it. You wouldn't know, though, because people keep comparing both games to TF2. But if you play it, you're bound to notice similarities, like small teams, main weapons with sub abilities, and chargeable super attacks. It's a great game and I highly recommend getting it (people have said it's worth getting a Wii U just for this game), but it's very noticeable that Nintendo is still new to the online shooter genre. I won't bore you with any details, but if you wind up getting the game, be prepared to go up against and be regularly destroyed by a LOT of Japanese players.
