Description Ditto is, despite its rather goofy natural appearance, an incredibly deadly parasite.

An adult ditto will inject its sperm into the egg of any pokemon. The fetus will develop similarly to the host and when it hatches, the ditto will emerge nearly identical to whatever species it has taken over. The young ditto will be raised with the other offspring of the host, though it will often kill the other young in order to receive more attention from the host parent. As the ditto grows, its disguise becomes less perfect and eventually it reverts back into its pink, gelatinous adult state.

All PokΓ©mon are a bit terrifying when you think about it.

Between a blob-like creature that absorbs other Pokemon in order to remedy its broken DNA, and a parasite who infects normal Pokemon eggs...I think I like your explanation more . It certainly explains why Ditto can’t really breed naturally.

I wonder if ways would be invented to keep its disguised forms? It might be a monster in the form of pink jelly, but those Ditto-starters look quite cute...and convincing.

Thank you. I tried my best to come up with at least the allusion of realism in my descriptions of the pokemon. Sometimes it's hard to balance biological feasibility and the original pokemon design.

Are you referencingΒ www.deviantart.com/art/Mewtwo-… ? I love a lot of what Arvalis has done with his pokemon. He's very good at coming up with ways of showing the various evolutions in a realistic manner. Connecting ditto to mew is a reference to a weird glitch in the original game.

I get what you mean, especially when a line looks like one animal, but then sprouts an unexpected one. Like how Eevee seems to be fox-like, but Espeon makes me think of a cat (especially in some of the games).

Indeed, he really takes an interesting take on them (Raikou vs Kyurem (love it, but can't spell it...-_-). My favorite one has to be the Froslass bug...a pretty bug that is .

But what glitch? And which game (was it the older ones Yellow, Green, and Red (I think) or did it appear in Leaf Green and Fire Red?

Originally Mew could only be added to the original US Blue and Red editions through special promotional events by Nintendo.Β My memory could be wrong, but I think players figured out a glitch involving Ditto that allowed you to catch him. I looked online and couldn't verify this, however they both have the "transform" ability.Β

KalahariMeerkatfan In reply to RtRadke [2015-12-15 02:13:51 +0000 UTC]

I’m not recalling it (although Leaf Green was my first game), but I did hear the Mew event part. But never the ditto glitch.

But you do have a point about the transforming ability...and...now that I think about it, Ditto is pink with its shiny being blue...exactly like Mew (pink in normal, blue in shiny). I guess it is not really too far-fetched to have Ditto be either the leftovers or maybe failed experiments that end up finding new ways to adapt. It must had taken a lot of tries before Mewtwo was created and even he had his flaws...I wonder how one explains the mega forms…

The wonders of Pokemon, still having us pondering.

I have to say, I love the design of the Ditto itself. The linework is great, and the coloring is incredibly realistic. The see-through effect is great, too. Nice work!

Just asking since cuckoo birds will lay their eggs in the nest of another bird. The chick then hatches quickly and will push the other eggs out of the nest. Sounded a bit like Ditto, which is brilliant by the way. I've never heard of an explanation that good, especially on how you get more Dittos.
