Some of these random pokemon are turning out to be a lot of fun to design. Drowzee and hypno are two entirely unrelated species. I based drowz on a tapir and hypno on a proboscis monkey.In fairy tales, drowzee find sleeping children and eat their dreams. This myth might actually have some bearing in real life, as drowzee often seem fascinated by sleeping animals and are known to grow upset when someone nearby is having a nightmare.
Hypno is the only known animal that uses hypnosis to catch its prey, swinging a pendulum (usually made of stone) in front of a small animal until it falls into a dream-like state. Hypno refuse to eat animal that are awake.

I thought Drowzee would be a mixed of tapir, elephant, bear, & pig + Hypno would be like monkey, elephant, pig mixed

For most of my pokemon I tried to stick with one primary animal reference. Some are more of a challenge than others but I still like how these turned out.

I don't know if the designers of the original Hypno were thinking of the proboscis monkey, but that was certainly my reference.

seeing drownzee as a quadruped makes it looks somehow related with giraffarig(maybe because of the colors)

When you say they're unrelated, do you mean that they're simply *based* on unrelated species, or that in your version of the PokΓ©mon world, Drowzee doesn't actually grow into Hypno?

Thanks for all the comments. Most of my pokemon wouldn't "evolve" into each other - it's a dynamic that works in a game but doesn't make much sense in real life.

This one has to be one of my favorites of yours :] I have never liked hypno or drowzee but your redesign would make me want one if they were real. I can see the animals you based them off of without them looking not enough like the pokemon. Great job!!

This is awesome. Tapir and proboscis monkey were perfect reference choices, I recognized the animals AND pokemon right away. Great freakin' job.

Another one of my favorite Pokemon, Hypno. Not only is it fairly creepy in the first place, I LOVE realistic renditions that make it even creepier. Excellent job on this, looks like you took inspiration from the proboscis apes.

This was one of my favorite redesigns. Not to sound arrogant, but I think using a proboscis monkey was a stroke of minor brilliance on my part - simple but effective. Others may disagree...

Wow, this is so cool! I always thought of Drowzee as a pig for somereason, never as a tapir. But that makes so much more sense! These are some of my favorite pokemon, they're dream-eating story was always so unique from the other pokemon! (Oh, but now they have another dream pokemon in the new Black and White games, I think :C )

Hypno as a proboscis monkey is a pretty good idea. Especially considering that a bipedal tapir makes little sense. The face of this hypno looks a little pasted on to the body, but it's still a cool, trollish sort of creature.
Isn't it funny how the first generation has an animal as obsceure as a tapir in it, yet something as obvious as a dolphin is still yet to be seen (unless you count kyogre)?

Hypno looks great! As for Drowzee, well despite it's face looking like an anteater in this drawing, (since you based that animal.) and in the Anime. I think it will be better if it's stands up it's two legs rather on fours.
But anyway Drowzee, looks cool.
