I always thought magmar was pretty cool, despite the unfortunate growths on its head. He's sort of a hodgepodge as far as references.Magmar do not generate flames like the char family, but they are impervious to intense heat and often appear to be on fire, oils from their skin igniting when they contact molten rock. This happens often, as they live primarily in and around active volcanoes.
This one has a radio collar put on it by scientists studying geothermal activity.

Thanks, this was my favorite for a long time. I'm sure there are other good/better realistic magmar out there, I'll have to look. I think I tried a little too hard to make this look "cool". I think if I did this again I'd dork it up a little and bring back the pot belly.

Yeah I noticed a lot of artists make magmar more avian with feathers in place of fire, so at least mine is a different take. I love Arvalis stuff btw.

Β don't take those butt-head jokes seriously. ever. they are smart. that is why they have those growths on their head. because their frontal lobe (front section of brain) is sooo incredibly large, their skull is weirdly shaped to accompany the larger-than-normal brain. you're welcome.

This is such a cool interpretation of magmar!
I really love the reptilian anatomy here. I never would have thought to model a magmar after such a dinosaur like creature, nor could I have drawn it's muscle structure so well!
The markings look lovely, too. I especially love the volcanic coloring on the torso.

have you considered doing the johto region pokemon yet? or possibly and i use that word loosely possibly the other regions? it maybe a lot of work but i think it might pay off in the end
