Description The central diamond emblem combines the arms of Sir Walter Raleigh, the namesake of North Carolina's capital city, with two six-pointed stars, to symbolise that North Carolina was the twelfth (2x6=12) state to join the Union. The two stars also represent the Mecklenburg Declaration and the Halifax Resolves - two revolutionary documents which were issued in North Carolina - as well as the the two nations, Britain and Spain, to colonise the area of the state and the two goddesses on the state seal, Liberty and Prosperity. The blue and white bars reflect the symbolism of the number two and recalls the original 1861 flag of North Carolina.

This could also probably work as the flag of the city of Raleigh.

As a North Carolinian, I approve.
