Description Regions transported: Greenland (Danmarkshavn), Iceland, Faroe Islands, United Kingdom (inc. With the disappearance of the Danish government, the Faroe Islanders and handful of personnel stationed at Danmarkshavn turned to Reykjavík to provide those services they now found themselves lacking. With Icelandic control effectively extended to all of Greenland, some Icelanders took advantage, following in their Norse ancestors' footsteps and establishing new communities in southern Greenland and later in Newfoundland and around the Gulf of St Lawrence, which became known as Vinland. Iceland didn't have Vinland to itself for long though, with many Britons, Irish and Portuguese also making the journey across the Atlantic. Thus English replaced Icelandic as the common language of Vinland and a granting of self-rule was soon followed by full independence.

The disappearance of virtually all of continental Europe was viewed as a wonderfully opportunity in Britain. For Scottish nationalists, the replenishing of the North Sea oil fields provided strength to their position than Scotland could be financially self-supporting and the British government's initial chaotic mishandling of the situation played into their hands such that the impetuous for Scotland's independence became overwhelming. Once free of the English yoke, Scotland did indeed develop the Viking oilfields and soon new towns were springing up along the formerly Norwegian coast to provide services to the oil riggers and their families. Many in England meanwhile quietly wished the Scots good riddance as they looked south across the Channel as they could now enjoy the French countryside without the inconvenience of the French. As the new home nations of Normandy and Gascony became ever more popular for ordinary Brits, some of the original pioneers, and those who considered the sophistication of the lost French culture should be preserved, founded their own "authentic" Provençal Republic with strict immigration policies to make sure that only the right sort would call it home.

Britons' new found enthusiasm for Europe and the loss of their Iberian neighbours was something that the Portuguese hoped to exploit as they expanded their tourism and hospitality industries along the Mediterranean Costa do Sol. They soon encountered many of the issues with mass tourism that the Spanish had found. The primary tourist areas were therefore split from Portugal proper and given their own governments to shoulder the costs while Lisbon kept the majority of the tax income. Portugal's development of Iberia was much to the chagrin of the Canarians who still viewed Spain as theirs. They had to content themselves however with the Azores, Cape Verde and some new colonial adventures in the Caribbean, complete with pirates.

While for Europe, the Event opened up new opportunities, for the countries of west Africa, it brought a new period of instability as the loss of trade and aid saw many governments struggle to support themselves and their populations. Tuareg separatists launched attacks across northern Mali before melting away into the empty sands of the Sahara. While the Malian government found support from other governments in the region, this was limited by their own struggles and so, after many years of fighting, a peace deal was reached establishing Azawad as a independent Tuareg state stretching across the Sahara. Smarting from the loss of its northern territory and access to the Niger Delta, Bamako pursued a union with Guinea, playing on Conakry's desire to counter the growing European state and corporate influence in Africa. Although the Malian-Guinean Union was achieved, it was ultimately short-lived with the coastal areas, including Conakry itself, breaking away and re-establishing Guinean independence. Seeking to rehabilitate its image after the split and the annexation of north-western Côte d'Ivoire, Mali renames itself as the Mandé Union after their predominant ethnic group in a hope to legitimise the annexation. Conflict also erupted in the Niger Delta region as Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso and European energy companies vied for control of the region's oil and agricultural resources. Of the African nations involved, Ghana emerged with the largest and most productive chunk of territory, however it was the corporations who ended up with the biggest prize in the establishment of their own Delta Republic.
