Description Quick quick sketch of the main cast-good guys from the old 80's serie "Mysterieuses Cites d'Or" (Mysterious Cities of Gold).
I learned only yesterday that there is a possibility there may be a follow up to the old serie, over 20 years after it was finished.
YES!! Finally!
Got to keep a cool head though: there were many false starts in the past, the studio (Blue Spirit animation) mentionned as being part of the production seem to specialise itself in pre-school, 3D material.
Still, wait and see!
If it does happen, crossing my fingers they keep a good quality and if they update the look, that it doesn't get too weird or widely different.
IF it gets done, we can expect it back on the television screen sometime in 2011-2012.

Funny... I'd rather read a comic book in the same style as the show, than see a new version of the animated series. They pretty much ruined He-Man And The Masters of the Universe, in my opinion

Rufftoon - is it impossible to get in contact with you? I would very much like to work with you.

Too young to remember such, am I. But it does bring to mind a Dwarfish drinking song:

Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold!

(Chorus)
Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold!

Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold!

(Chorus)

Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold!

(Chorus)

Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold!

I think Sancho and Pedro (the two guys in the back) would gladly sing along.
(Dwarves...not too well known for their poetry, are they?)

Good, the more the merrier! And, by the by, was the series based on the legend of El Dorado?
(No, but they are well known for their love of gold.)

rufftoon In reply to GizesNumbers [2009-06-18 05:31:28 +0000 UTC]

El Dorado, Cibola, The cities of Gold...yup! The serie was loosely based on that legend, and then went and added everything else on top: the lost continent of MU, ancient Astronaut, mysterious ancient technologies ahead of its time.
Makes for a lot of fun material to play with.

It does sound fun.

It's always pretty interesting when one culture experiments with legend/myth/culture of another one vastly dissimilar. One of my favorite's is Beauty and the Beast- you have the Disney or French version and you also have the original Persian tale. Both are cautionary, and both are good, but in their own way.

Also, you seem worried that the studio working on the product specializes in 3-d Preschool entertainment. But worry not. First, just because it's for little kids doesn't make the writers/animators lazy or stupid. Watching old Sesame Street clips I find myself enjoying them- and not just out of nostalgia.

Of course, that IS Jim Henson. Few, and I mean few, can touch his level of brilliance.

If only the new Cites D'Or movie was as good as your artwork here - then I would have no fears...
I give it (10) Olmecs! Check out my custom figures, I made a Zia & Esteban pair almost 25 years ago. America never had the toys & statues that Europe does

Oh man, you're a fan of this series too? How awesome is that! (I almost never come across people who even remember this series). I remember always wanting to see this show when I was a kid, but never seeing it through to the end until I found the French episodes while in college, watching it despite my horrid French skills. I've been waiting so long for this to come over here as a DVD.

I hope that we get to see the new series stateside as well when (and if) they finish production. I hope it lives up to the original.

I always loved the series too. If it is 3Ded hope they will know what they are doing and not make them into stiff mannequins which you can do quite easily in 3D. Better if it is in 2D after all.

Oh my God, I remember watching this as a kid! Only . . . I don't remember much other than the opening song "Oooooooo, someday we will find, the cities of gooooooooold!"

Now I'm having a nostalgia attack that must be corrected. I wonder where I can find this again.

I remember that show from my early childhood. the last episodes sucked. friendship? when there's gold involved there's no such thing as friendship. I was sooo dissappointed.

And yet, the kids stuck together in adversity, Mendoza did help in his own way (yet managing to grab some reward for himself and his two colleagues). Gold always played a big part, showing the greediness of the adults but the kids never had much interest in the thing.

Annoying or not, it is Tao's bird and tends to stick to him...so he had to be in there (beside, he's fun to draw- all puffy!)

I just checked the trailer out and some pics on IMDB (unfortnately, this TV show never crossed the path of my childhood).
It does look very promising. Rendering something like that in 3D would be exciting to see. I hope they pull it, in the end .

Thanks for spreading this, Johane :3!

rufftoon In reply to MartyBishop [2009-06-13 18:49:24 +0000 UTC]

Neh, it had a charm in 2D that 3D couldn't achieve. There are some expressions that work too well in 2D that would look pasted on otherwise.
The classic serie is still worth a watch.
