Too young to remember such, am I. But it does bring to mind a Dwarfish drinking song:
Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold!
(Chorus)
Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold!
Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold!
(Chorus)
Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold!
(Chorus)
Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold!

I think Sancho and Pedro (the two guys in the back) would gladly sing along.
(Dwarves...not too well known for their poetry, are they?)

Good, the more the merrier! And, by the by, was the series based on the legend of El Dorado?
(No, but they are well known for their love of gold.)

rufftoon In reply to GizesNumbers [2009-06-18 05:31:28 +0000 UTC]
El Dorado, Cibola, The cities of Gold...yup! The serie was loosely based on that legend, and then went and added everything else on top: the lost continent of MU, ancient Astronaut, mysterious ancient technologies ahead of its time.
Makes for a lot of fun material to play with.

It does sound fun.
It's always pretty interesting when one culture experiments with legend/myth/culture of another one vastly dissimilar. One of my favorite's is Beauty and the Beast- you have the Disney or French version and you also have the original Persian tale. Both are cautionary, and both are good, but in their own way.
Also, you seem worried that the studio working on the product specializes in 3-d Preschool entertainment. But worry not. First, just because it's for little kids doesn't make the writers/animators lazy or stupid. Watching old Sesame Street clips I find myself enjoying them- and not just out of nostalgia.
Of course, that IS Jim Henson. Few, and I mean few, can touch his level of brilliance.

Oh man, you're a fan of this series too? How awesome is that! (I almost never come across people who even remember this series). I remember always wanting to see this show when I was a kid, but never seeing it through to the end until I found the French episodes while in college, watching it despite my horrid French skills. I've been waiting so long for this to come over here as a DVD.
I hope that we get to see the new series stateside as well when (and if) they finish production. I hope it lives up to the original.

Oh! I never though that someone would draw them! That was one of my favorite show as a kid (with Lady Oscar)! I watched that in French (les mystΓ©rieuses citΓ©s d'or) and I still remember the opening song really well. Thanks for the news, I'll be overjoy to watch that.

Oh my God, I remember watching this as a kid! Only . . . I don't remember much other than the opening song "Oooooooo, someday we will find, the cities of gooooooooold!"
Now I'm having a nostalgia attack that must be corrected. I wonder where I can find this again.

I remember that show from my early childhood. the last episodes sucked. friendship? when there's gold involved there's no such thing as friendship. I was sooo dissappointed.

And yet, the kids stuck together in adversity, Mendoza did help in his own way (yet managing to grab some reward for himself and his two colleagues). Gold always played a big part, showing the greediness of the adults but the kids never had much interest in the thing.

If I listened only to me, there would only be Mendoza...but the kids were the true heros of the serie so yeah. I had to put them in there.

The DVDs are available in Europe and now in North America too (french and English)

Neh, it had a charm in 2D that 3D couldn't achieve. There are some expressions that work too well in 2D that would look pasted on otherwise.
The classic serie is still worth a watch.
