I actually believe Zaho had not gone crazy. Near the breaking point perhaps, but caught in his own nightmares? No. He was actually doing what Tenzin was doing, holding his own goal in mind. That would likely be the reason why he was still pacing around. If there ever is a 3th series we need something like that to happen.

What if someone from the real world wandered through into the fog? Wouldn't that be incredibly dangerous? Do they need to post "Warning: Mind Erasing Fog Ahead" signs?
Also, methinks Korra kept it open for Southern Water Tribe tourism. Make some good money selling "spirit equipment" and souvenirs.

I feel like Korra is secretly biased. Or not-so-secretly, actually.Β
Personally, I don't really like her as an Avatar. Aang had flaws, but they made him interesting, made him struggle to find his place between worlds. Korra just acts like a massive jerk to everybody, and her insecurities make me pity her in the way I pity the school bullies: sad for their problems, but absolutely not justifying beating up on my anti-bending protesting rally. Can nobody see the oppression?!?Β Β Β Β

This is acing me but isn't Zhao dead, because he was 40 or 58 and he could have died if he came out of the portal. Or he is immortal........

Uhm...spoiler alert...he did die, but because of the manner of his death (being practically swallowed by the living Ocean Spirit) he wound up in a sort of limbo that was displayed in the new series as a gorge filled with obscuring fog; forever trapping the souls lost within. Zhao was seen as a lonely spirit, lost in limbo, destined to wander forever with a broken mind and naught but his obsessions to remind the viewer of the man he once was.
This comic is a play on the fact that Tenzin and Kya were temporarily trapped in the Spirit World and saw Zhao briefly.

Actally we never really saw him die. It is just as likely that he was pulled into the spirit world whole and then stuffed into that fog. And as the rules of normal space and time donΒ΄t apply in the spirit world, he could likely still be wandering the fog alive and well, or better unwell.

That episode (actually the whole story arc)Β was a nice nod to fans of the original series, with Zhao and Iroh and the similarities between some of Korra's and Aang's Avatar "stuff" - likeΒ when she tried to bind Vatu with the elements and Aang did the same to Ozai. I have to watch it again and see what other similarities I can find.
