Tokyo Ghoul:re Director: “How many masks would you like to wear for this upcoming arc, investigator?”

Akira: “Yes.”

Part 1: Cont. from Akira Mado Masked Mission story.

Previously, Akira was dispatched on an extended espionage for a top secret ghoul investigation. After infiltrating enemy territory, she was tasked to meet up an agent to exchange sensitive information over a period of time. To keep her identity a complete secret, Akira is almost always wearing a mask or has her face covered for the entirety of the grueling, month-long mission.

1) [Full-Face Gimp Mask]
During the mission, Akira is mostly seen donning a sleek black suit & a leather gimp mask that fully covers her entire face. Here, Akira’s beautiful blond hair is usually seen tied up in a braided bun, but she occasionally lets her hair down once she’s alone (while still keeping the mask on).

Fastened by several buckles, the bdsm-styled mask encloses Akira’s entire face. The blindfold part has micro perforations to allow sight & hearing from within. The sound of her voice becomes audibly muffled behind her mask when speaking, making Akira harder to identify with the mouth cover on.

2) [Fighter’s Leather Half Mask]

The bottom half of the full face mask.
Akira was initially seen wearing this black leather mask for the first time during the arc’s prologue (when she & Amon met up to talk before seeing each other off on their respective missions).

During mission, Akira usually removes the upper half of the gimp mask & blindfold part to ease up on the weight on her face once she’s finally alone. To not risk exposing her full face (in case she was being recorded), Akira still keeps the black fighter's leather mask on to cover the lower half of her face at nearly all times. The only times where she momentarily takes off the half mask too is when she’s bathing or needing to partially lift up the mouth cover to eat/drink.

Part 2: Post-Mission

As an extra series of protcols & safety measures upon returning from her mission, Akira still had to keep a mask on after being exposed to high levels of RC while infiltrating ghoul laboratories.

3) [Black surgical Masks/White surgical masks]

Once completing her month-long investigative mission, Akira was able to easily escape from the enemy ward by hiding as a transport stowaway for a few days. During the her return trip, a casually dressed Akira can be seen with her hair down while wearing a tight black surgical mask.

By the time of her train arrival, an overworked Akira could be seen exiting from the station with her exhausted face covered in a white surgical mask, that’s now gotten quite dirty. On the verge of collapse, she was lovingly greeted by her wholesomely relieved subordinates, Haise & Saiko as they joyously escort her back to the CCG dorms for a well-deserved rest. Akira must’ve been wearing her surgical mask for a long time, since her mask was visibly stained with a wet spot of accumulated saliva near where her mouth is by the time she got off (a first time that anyone has seen her like this).

4) [Breathing Fetish Mask]

After a successful debrief & a good rest, Akira was allowed to return to her usual duties at work, but was still required to wear a mask on site at all times for the next 10 days. This was a safety precaution since she was likely exposed to high levels of RC gasses within the ghoul facilities. During this probation period, she was given a special breathing mask by the CCG to help contain & isolate airborne particles.

Made out of a sporty synthetic fiber, the ori-nasal mask has a layer of mesh that forms a pocket over Akira’s mouth & nose, acting as a rebreather. There is a sort of fetish-like quality to the mouth cover, since the elastic material accentuates the wearer’s breathing in great detail. While wearing it, the surface of the mask would visibly crinkle inwards whenever Akira breathes in and expand like a balloon with every exhale. The mask vibrates while Akira is talking, as her breath gently blows on the front surface of her mouth cover with each word spoken.
