Description One of the few benefits of being this size was air travel.  Not only was it cheap, but it was comfortable. He had nearly four ffeet in economy.  First class rated private compartments, but those tickets cost nearly half as much as economy class for a normal sized person.  And then there was the food.  It was something to write home about.

Traveling to Oberlin was exciting and a bit frightening at the same time. Lucas had traveled by himself a half dozen times, but those were all short round trips.  Trips to relatives and tours.  Now it was one-way.  Finally he was going away to school and the bigger world.  His parents saw him off at the bus stop at the South Transfer where he climbed into a twelve passenger tcon, more properly a transfer container, for the ride to the airport.

A heavyset woman about his mother’s age and over fourteen times her height picked up his tcon and placed it on a cart with three more for the trip down terminal walkway.  She stopped at the flight to Newark and a couple got off his tcon.  Next was Chicago and a few more left from another unit.  Cleveland came up next.  He was the only passenger to leave.  He walked onto the pre-boarding area and took a seat.

Only five DSers had arrived.  A business man was working out of his briefcase, but the others probably did what he did with their luggage traveling in a separate module.  Bored he looked towards the normal waiting area.  About thirty people were waiting, most of them with some carry-on luggage and most of them looking at their phones or eating something.   They were far enough away so as to not be intimidating, but this was as many giants as he had seen in one place since the trip to Honolulu last January.  Finally he gave up and walked into the cabin that sat next to the waiting room.

The economy cabin had eight rows of seats three across with lots of space between.  He had no idea how many an airline flew with, but space wasn’t exactly at a premium. Fifteen minutes later the seat belt light came on and a stewardess or steward pushed the cart with their cabin into the airplane’s main cabin.  The monitors to the side came on showing the outside view to the sides and the steward went through the safety procedure.

Lucas had been up most of the night and as soon as the lights were turned down for the movie he was out for most of the flight.

The lights came on and the steward was standing at the front of the compartment next to his cart.

“We’ll be starting our final approach to Cleveland’s Hopkins International Airport.  Fasten your seat belt, bring your seats to their full upright position and raise your tray tables.  I’ll be around to collect your dinner trays.”

He had slept through dinner.  He’d have to get something at the airport or wait until Oberlin..    The front screen went to an ad for the airline.  The side screens were even less interesting as they dropped into the cloud bank, but he could hear the engines throttle back feel the plane slow down.  .

There would be  a shuttle that would take him to Oberlin and then he’d meet Jessikka.  That had him worried.  They did well chatting, but he was nervous around girls and triply so around giant girls.  He needed this to work.  He had to have a place to live.

As he waited for the ride he watched the parade of giants waiting for their taxis, Ubers or the bus to the parking lots.  Thanks to the dark window no one seemed to notice him, but he found himself getting even more nervous.  The last thing he wanted was to give up and go home.
_____________

About an hour later he stepped out of the four passenger tcon onto a desk..  It looked like an ordinary office.  A bit on the old side with sunlight streaming in through the trees just outside the window.  There were some potted plants on the windowsill.

A female voice came from behind.

“Thank you…”

A shadow passed overhead as a giant hand come down towards the tcon.

“It’s prepaid.  I’ll show myself out” a male voice said as the tcon rose moving seemingly without effort to the giant’s torso and then with him through the door.

“It’s nice to finally meet you Mr Hoffman.”

Lucas spun around  towards the woman smiling down at him.  He felt his heart pounding.  Being around these unfamiliar giants triggered reactions he thought he could control.  Hoping she wouldn’t notice he took a deep breath to calm himself.

“You must be Mrs. Steele”

“You’ve got a good ear.  I guess I shouldn’t be surprised/  I listened the piece you composed for the Emery Prize.    You have a big fan. here”

His heart rate was coming back to normal.

“Thanks.  I’m totally psyched to finally get here..”

She turned towards a file cabinet and retrieved a folder.

“I’ll be your administration contact.  Anything you need.  If you like I’ll let your assistant know woman you’re here.”

“Jessikka?”

She nodded.  “Can you believe it?  We have six new assistants this year.”  She opened the folder and pulled out a sheet of paper with an official-looking stamp on it.   “Her apartment passed the state inspection yesterday.”

“Did the house I ordered make it?”

Mrs Steele turned back to  the paperwork.

“Not here..  that means it probably hasn’t arrived.  Let me check online…”  She turned to the computer behind her.   “Here’s the order, but I don’t know if it’s been delivered.”  She turned back towards him.  She probably wasn’t that tall - maybe not even average  for a normal woman, but watching someone that large move so quickly set him off again.

“We’ve got  a few  apartments you can borrow if it isn’t here. They’re not much, but better than nothing..”

She took out her phone and typed.  Given the age of the office and the piles of paperwork, texting almost seemed out of place.

“ ‘ told her you’re here.” She said setting the phone down. “Call me Susan if you like.  And I have to apologize.  There’s a meeting in five minutes.  You can wait in the room down the hall and I’ll send Jessikka there.  If not it’ll only be an hour.”

He took a deep breath to calm himself as Susan pushed her chair back and stood up.  She was probably in her mid thirties with light brown hair.  He tried not to watch the outside of her bra under her shirt as she bent towards him.  Her boobs, breasts he corrected himself mentally, were larger than average.  Then a movement startled him -somehow her hand was just to his right.  Rookie mistake. He should have been watching it rather than thinking about her chest.

“Don’t be nervous Mr Hoffman.  I’ve done this hundreds of times.”

He stepped onto her palm and held on to her thumb.

“I’m okay with just Lucas.”

The empty room was three doors down.  She typed a code into the lock.

“No one’s using this now. I’m afraid there’s not much for you, but it shouldn’t be long.” She said as she set him down on the room’s only desk.

“I’ll text her the lock’s code .. and I better bring your luggage box in too.”

Maybe with some time by himself he’d be able realize he was finally at Oberlin.  For the next four or five years it was going to be the land of the giants.

Less than a minute later Susan was back with the luggage box.  It was sized more for normals than DSers.. about eight by four by four ffeet.

“See you later!” she said as she left locking the door behind her.

The room was almost barren.  Slightly stale air, a desk, an old chair, several empty file cabinets and almost empty bookshelves.  He paced on the desktop staying away from the edge.  Their house could easily fit on it.  The floor was probably over thirty ffeet below and the chair was too far away for a successful jump.  If he was normal sized he’d be walking around the campus and checking out the girls.  This sucked.  He was almost a prisoner in a land of giants.   Bored, he sat down and wondered what Apryl was doing.  Their breakup hadn’t exactly gone the way he’d hoped.

Ten or twenty minutes had gone by when the lock rattled.  He stood up and turned towards the door as the blonde girl effortlessly pushed the hundred ffoot door open and looked around.

“Lucas?”

“Down here!” he yelled waving at her  “on the desk!”

The door shut behind her and she set her purse down.

“Oh my God Lucas!  Face to face!.  You’re so”  she stopped herself mid sentence.

‘More like face to shorts' he thought. At this range he’d fall over trying to make eye contact.

“Your accent’s way better in person”  he said.

“You are the one with the accent!” she laughed as she leaned forward placing her right hand on the desk.

“You okay with this?  I’m sorry, but this is normal and I thought you were coming tomorrow.  Plus it’s so hot I probably smell like a herd.” she started to lift her left arm to check, but quickly thought better of it.  “ ‘just get here?”

“Wanna see the apartment?”

“We should let Mrs. Steele know.”

“I’ll text her.”  She pointed towards her purse  “It’s pretty messy in there right now.  Mind traveling by hand?  It’s about eight blocks so you can see some of the town and campus.”

This time he watched as her hand came down to his level.  It was a lot bigger than Mrs. Steele’s, but Jessikka was a lot taller.

“You could ride on my shoulder if you like, but I don’t think the shirt’s right.”

“I’ll stick with your hand..” he said as he stepped on.

“Your luggage?” she asked pointing to the large container.

“Yeah..”

She shouldered her purse before picking up his luggage box and stuffing it in.

"Your box won't care but trust me - you really don't want to go in there."

Walking out she remembered Viivi joking her about having him travel in her bra.  That would make sense now, but it wasn’t something she was about to suggest. Still - Lucas was really cute and she liked him a lot from their messaging.
