Description sorry for all this Astro Boy nonsense, ill get back to my usual shtick very soon now. imma not put this on my facebook or tumblr page by the way; frankly im embarrassed for myself...

ehem, but anyway.

so u know how my last deviation played around with the idea of making my own rendition of Astro Boy, only darker, grittier, sexy sexy hardcare shit, ladies and gentlemen. So i might aswell end this breif farce with my re-imagining of Dr. Tenma, who i think i like just as much as Astro Boy himself. i dunno why a majority of the Astro Boy versions don't focus on the relationship between these 2 for very long, i see it as a major plot point. The 2003 series I think explored the possibilities of Astro's and Tenma's interactions perfectly, what with Tenma not only being the deadbeat father but also one of the main antagonists, who eventually lets down his forces to Astro Boy and allows himself to express the honest affection he feels for his robot. The 2003 series explored this so, so well- so i dunno where the 2009 film went wrong. Of-coarse in all the 2009 Astro Boy was a very bad movie all together, but I feel Dr. Tenma as a character (played by Nick Cage o gawd), though focusing mainly on the conflict of the father abandoning son, Dr. Tenma was extremely down-played, and almost boring. thats redic-dick- veva la Tenma.

But anyway, here's my half-assed re-imagining of this chicken-like character I like so much. Dr. Tenma and Astro-Boy's story i think would take place in quite literally the year 2000, (since the original comic from the 50's proclaimed so), and instad of this futuristic wonderland seen in most renditions, we are brought to our present. Our cold, dingy, sleezy, digital, post Y2K bullshit, and pre 9/11 semi-present.
Dr. Tenma no longer works at the "Institute of Science", but the "Westchester County Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics" (i think 'institute of science' is extremely vague, science is many, many things.)
Dr. Tenma is one of the most well-known and praised pioneers on the engineering of interactive robots, though he had recently lost his son Tobio (as the usual storyline), but i was thinking maybe to something that was out of Tenma's control due to the temporment of man- Tobio died at the hands of a sexual predator, who happened to be a trusted friend and co-worker to Tenma and supposedly an uncle figure to Tobio.
The incident defined Tenma's outlook on the world. Tenma is a genius, but is a short tempered, control-crazy, self loathing heavy-drinker. Though after building Astro Boy in an attempt to replace Tobio his more loving and gentler side is revealed for the breif time Astro boy is under his care.
Astro would be programmed as a learning robot, but for some reason it would be vital for Dr. Tenma to sit in some plain room with Astro for the next 36 hours, and to interact with him non-stop. It was vitale to talk to him, touch him, play with him, yadah yadah in order for Astro to be familiar with basic language skills, social skills, and a sense of empathy. In turn i guess a sort of "imprinting" would occur, and Tenma grew to be the only person that mattered in the world to Astro very quickly. I guess this drawing is during that time, u can kinda see in Tenma's eyes that he has a ingering feeling that this isn't going to work, because of who he is as a person, and because he discovered very quickly Astro was no Tobio. I can taste early sigs of regret already. shit.
Poor Astro don't even know. He just a lil-boi. he dun know what goin on

well, sorry for my ramblings.
back to normal art now.

hope u like

I must admit, I've never seen Astroboy but the title reminded me of another fantastic anime called 'Monster', where the main character is called Dr Tenma.

It's a really good, psychological, thriller anime if you give it the time and patience it deserves. It's filled with mature and complex characters and ideas. The plot, at times can seem to completely derail but it all come together in the end. It's understandable if you don't check it out. It is 80 episodes long and it can be slow at times. But is worth it if you enjoyed things like Death Note, Hitchcock films or other psychological things.

You'll also be hard pressed to find a scarier villain than Johan.

I see nothing embarrassing about this. It's all based on a great cartoon.
