Description A Nakajima B5N Kate, the infamous Japanese torpedo bomber of World War II. Brutally devastating, it gained its fearsome reputation when it became the aircraft that killed the Arizona at the raid on Pearl Harbor.
Later on, it would take out three of the U.S. Navy's fleet carriers, the first of which was the Lexington at the Battle of Coral Sea.

Or well, sort of. Its actually a BT-13 Valiant masquerading as a Kate, complete with a Long Lance torpedo replica.

For those unfamiliar with the Kate, the reason a BT-13 is dressed up as a Kate is because no real Kates survived World War II. They were lightly built and rather delicate, very very easy to shoot down so most of them were shot to pieces. The few surviors of the war were cast into the scrap yard and cut up.

Aw man, thought that was the real deal. . .Would of been a pretty damn rare sight if it were. Actually, it still kinda is. . .

Quite a convincing replica, no?
It definately would have been a rare sight were it the real deal. Unfortunately, there are no original Kates that are intact left. A few museums have wrecks, but that's basically it.
The few not shot to pieces in combat were scrapped shortly after the war's end.

Long lance was a shipborne 24" torpedo

It could also be air launched from torpedo bombers.

Yep, replica Zekes, Vals, and Kates. It was a couple of years ago at, IIRC, a show at Carswell JRB. I'll admit that it could've been at one of the shows at Ft. Worth Alliance...

Ooh, awesome. =3
You know, they had a Zeke at this show...which I'm sure was one of the T-6 conversions. I took a picture of it, but I'll have to try and find it. Dunno if I have it anymore.

wasent it a Val dive bomber that killed the Arizona?

Russian-Fox In reply to Enterprise206 [2011-04-15 17:46:15 +0000 UTC]

No, it was a Kate being used as a level bomber. Vals were indeed at Pearl Harbor, but its a Kate flying as a level bomber that is said to have killed the Arizona.
