Description To commermorate 100 years of Naval Aviation, several squadrons in the Navy had their aircraft painted up in a number of old school markings from the '30's and '40's.

I believe the pictures were taken by Navy personnel, though just in case, all due credit to the photographer.

What time period does the blue tail come from?

The 1930's.
The overall paint scheme is known as the "Golden Wings" scheme. Most, if not all U.S. Navy aircraft in the 1930s were painted like this.

The colors both on the tail and the nose identified specific features; the tail color denoted which carrier the aircraft was assigned to, and the nose color specified the squadron it was part of.

Maybe.
They're going around the country to various airshows this summer, commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation...maybe they'll be near where you're at. =3

Ah, I see. =3
So this aircraft is painted in colours similar to your country's IAR 99s. Well, you're welcome. ^^

That they do. Or well, they did. Today's dull, drab gray things aren't much to look at but this...this is a work of art. I say we go back to schemes like this.

They paint them like that now. For reason on visibility. If you can see it on radar thats one thing. But seeing the plane visually since its painted gray to nearly match the sky is another thing. I wisht hey would go back to the old school paintscheme though.

Yeah, I know why they paint them gray. Its just so....bland looking.
Then again, the gloss blue over white was for the same reason, basically camouflage. Looking at it from the top down, it would match the ocean, and looking at it from the ground up it would blend with the sky.

They should have kept that paint scheme then.
