When I saw this picture in my inbox the first thing that struck me was the shape of the rocks. The larger one seems almost like a human figure and it made me think perhaps it was a mother and child rock. I think the name "standing rock" works really well with it as well because of how the large rock looks so much like it has legs and is standing.
Overall I really like how the rocks look. Though perhaps they would appear more realistic if the shading was blended better, I appreciate the sketchier feel the images gives as it is now. The clouds also have a very nice, soft light to them that I enjoy.
The shading is a bit confusing though. When on the rocks the light appears to be coming from the side, but in the clouds and water it seems to be coming from behind. The picture would seem more whole if the shadows of the water ripples were adjacent to that dark side of the rock and if the light through the clouds appeared more to the right. Or perhaps if the middle front of the rock was darkened instead of the left hand side. Also, the water, though colored well, would appear more like water if there was more contrast in the ripples or perhaps if it had more solid, obvious reflections of the clouds and stones. Right now it seems blurry as if it could perhaps be ground or fog.
I realize that in only spending an hour on this piece you probably did not have the time to refine it as much as you wished, and it is still very beautiful. I love how it gives off such a calming or peaceful feeling.
