After many hours of toiling in front of my computer, my masterpiece is finally done!! I swear this took forever. I am never doing hair like that again! I hated it!! >.<But anyway, here she is; big boobs and all! LOL! I hope you all like her and please give me honest feedback because I tried a lot of new techniques with her. I also used alot of tutorials to make my coloring better! Thank you!

she is absolutely gorgeous ruu! great effects with the translucent fins. also, love the way you did the scales! if there is one thing i'd work on, she looks a little rubbery. maybe make the highlights a little more defined? still love her though!!!! <3

just one more thing. you may have hated doing her hair, but it looks freaking gorgeous. pretty realistic for underwater in that it goes all over the place. but really it's just beautifully done.

I really can't critique the coloring; I think it came out really well actually. The only thing I can point out is how you did the highlights of her tail. Viewed up close, it just looks like you put a piece of clear film on top of the lower half of body and spray painted the shine on. It would be more convincing, IMO, if you indicated that each scale was highlighted where you did the highlights.
What made the hair so hard to color? I think it came out wonderful!

You're right about the tail. I should try that on my next mermaid. I think I just got tired with her, but you make a clear valid point. I am disappointed in myself!
As for the hair, the reason why it was so hard is because I had to outline and color each strand individually. It was a real challenge, but cool at the same time!

the technics you used for her tail and the lil sparkle on the gems is amazing !!! makes it look soo real

Since I am not a Premium Member I apparently am not allowed to write a "critique"
but I'm giving one through this!
First off, WOW!! Epically mind-blowing Wow-ness!!! The most noticeable thing is the pearls...lots and lots of pearls
It is quite apparent that many many MANY hours were spent on this wonderful and tastefully done masterpiece!
Character structure is next to perfect!! When I think of a Mermaid I think of all that hair, and you totally nailed it.
[I too understand the frustrations of all that hair to work with, but you pulled it off exquisitely]
You can really tell you went out of your comfort zone and tried new techniques and I'm glad to see you challenging yourself.
Your eyes are forced to travel along the whole picture and doesn't focus on any particular part...
the lighting is amazing, and I'm glad to see you just didn't do your typical under the sea [waaaay under the sea where it's all dark and gloomy] The bubbles are a smart touch, but if I may say, if you use bubbles next time, perhaps you should try to blur them and not make them so dominant [tone back their opacity] it would blend in with the background/foreground more.
Your colors are superb as well as shading..but I do have to admit that the gems around her belly do kind of get lost in the water.
I like what you did with the fins, and didn't focus on just the tail portion, you made her more fish-like from the waste down and it was tastefully done. Perhaps on a future project with mermaids you could try to make the fins more transparent with an iridescent glow effect, instead of just doing a flat color or two and lowering the opacity. Just a friendly suggestion
You did a fantastic job in my opinion on the scale work. It's an area I'm not too familiar with doing and the only thing I can say is it really fits in this picture. You kept it flowing with her body instead of just doing a simple [select-->fill-->pattern]. Awesome Awesome Awesome!!!
The line work is beautifully done and it shows you are branching out of that "anime zone" I still see it in the face, but quite frankly I enjoy an anime styled face with a more modern body type. I would like to see in the future you challenge yourself with your line work..meaning: instead of just using the black line work you would go around your entire outline and change the coloration to match. Example being: Around the lower body/fish portion, change it to a darker red....the skin would be a darker flesh tone outline, same for the hair and fins. It's a bit tricky and somewhat time consuming, but it can really change the overall "boldness" of a piece.
The eyes are truly one of my favorite parts to this piece. I see at least 3-5 layers which makes me happy. I feel the eyes should always have extra care taken to them not only to go with the piece and to stand out a bit, but it also give your character more emotion and in a way tells their own individual story.
I also would like to point out that you gave her just the right amount of glares/light contrasts. It's quite subtle in the hair and it's mainly due to the "sparkle effect" from pearls. I'm glad to see you only focused that effect on the bigger pieces, otherwise it would just be too much.
This is A+ work here!! It's great to see you get out of that comfort zone and challenge your abilities.

This is some critique and I see what you mean on a lot of the things that you said. I will keep working on my skills and continue to get out of my comfort zone. I hope that the next woman I draw will be a centaur and that she turns out this sexy. I do appreciate the critique because it means a lot to me to know what you think about it, especially in such detail. My eyes bugged out of my face because I was amazed at how detailed you were. better? Could it even get better? I love the slight transparency of her tail fins. The tail detail is amazing! And coloring is perfect! And hot damn is she sexy. I bet a ton of sailors would jump in after her
