There's two types of life on the ship, and likely only one type on the planet. Either the Dextros starve, or the Levos starve. Heck, maybe they all starve, but someone's not walking away from this one. Except EDI. Unless you picked red... this is just getting worse.

Crux of the argument comes from Earth being a burnt out husk of a planet after the invasion and that she is dextro amino acid based species. This means what animals or plants that are surviving on earth she, nor Garrus, nor the tens of thousands of other quarians and turians can eat since it is all levo amino acid based. And they probably will need to go to ground eventually since ship-based food stores won't last forever.
