I'm in a pretty dismal mood right now, and this is the best I can come up with.Done entirely in PS7, using my tablet (oh so sexy). The tree in the background is a brush I made using an edit of stock photo I got off ~snarfevs . After each layer was coloured I fiddled with the contrast to make the whole scene as tired as possible. Finished it at around 1 am last night.
Funnier stuff coming soon, I swear.

However it was done, it looks great! If you don't mind me saying, I think it's a leap ahead of your previous work!
Although the pic you used as the background basis is indeed stock, not all of the stuff I gave you in the stock directory is in fact stock - some are reference pics so approach with caution, especially the pics of the blackbird, spirit and tomcat...
(actually, tomcat is a rather photorealistic airbrushing, believe it or not...)
Anyhow, this is really great. Perhaps the shirt could have used a little work but I like this very much.

Ah, yes, the shirt. I never intended to actually include the shirt in the picture, but after flatting it and chopping just the head it seemed... pooey. So I included the shirt, into which had gone no work.
And nope, not your colouring method. I just coloured flats, then picked a kinda-darker colour, and did some shadows on the same layer, then a more-darker-colour and did darker shadows...
