Amazing and beautiful!

More Questions:

1. What sort of camera settings do you use? Aperature, ISO, etc.?

2. When you ignite the steel wool does it flare up and spark immediately or does it start slowly and build up to the sparking as you spin it around?

3. How long does it take for the steel wool to burn up from the whisk?

More warnings: Beginners severely burn themselves doing this. Be fucking careful. Cover up. Drop whisk on the ground when you are done. Let it cool. Any garbage, leaves, etc, on the ground will be on fireβ€”even when wet...put the fires out.

Setting listed below with camera data. Basically, I do F5.6 or F8 at ISO 50 or 100 at 20-30 seconds. Increase ISO to increase background exposure.

Use #000 steel wool onlyβ€”it sparks up pretty quick and lasts 10-20 seconds.

Tip: Don't open the shutter until you start spinning. Some people prefer bulb mode. Experiment.

Can I ask a few things?

1. What do you put the steel wool in to stop it from flying off when you spin it?

2. What do you use to spin the wool round? Rope? Cable? etc

3. What do you use to ignite the wool?

Thanks

P.S. Great shot!

Thanks, HKW: Tie a piece of string, twine, or cable to the handle of a metal wire whip/wisk, fluff #000 grade steel wool, stuff it inside, and ignite with a lighter or 9v battery. Camera settings below.

Welcome. Careful, my friend... People burn the hell out of themselves doing this. Gloves, hood, glasses, all good ideas.

We'll be careful

I know it's also a very good idea to bring a large amount of water to dampen any surrounding plants as well.
