I finally have time to post more detailed impressions of this piece. I must say that in my opinion, the excellence of this work far exceeds the professionally marketed statues of Red Sonja that are currently available. The others are unconvincing as the women appear to be too frail to even lift a sword, let alone wield it. They seem to be posing for a camera that does not exist. Your piece seizes a viewers attention as an exciting yet violent moment in time that forwards the narrative. I agree with others......this statue should be made available as a kit.
My experience in modelling is with styrene plastic, resins, and all variety of paint. I would like to give this type of modeling/sculpture a try. I have looked at all the comments about your work in an effort to get a start. What websites and threads would helpful to me? Basic tools?

Oi

do dragΓ£o...)
Mulheres sΓ£o o maior desafio para um escultor.

Vielen Dank!
I sculped her not thinking about the possibility of
kit making.I learned about GKΒ΄s only a short time ago. A fantasy sculptor I am only about 2 years,
and as hobby only.
But I hope that will change;the next figure ;a comission;I will try to cast.I am researching the
know how.
Producers found the Sonja statue too difficult to kit successfully.
Congrats on your fantastic well executed Kits!
Alles gute!

No kit release ?
Now I'm said .....
Well, some things about sculpting, mold making and casting:
If you wanna do a kit out of your sculpt, you've to think about the right places for
the cuts (for mold making) during the sculpting process.
The parts has to be mold friendly (no traps for air bubbles, no harsh undercuts) and
customer friendly (as you've to think about, how to paint and where can the
joints be hidden easily).
About mold making, you can learn a lot here:
[link]
My -personal- opinion:
Let the pros do their job, or: A cobbler should stick to his last.
Some sculpters can cast, some not - and do not accept that.
Thus some great sculpts ends in bad castsed kits ....
A great loss occurs - just for saving a few $
Further more, "gravity cast" (just pooring resin in a mold) is really not up to date
any more.
State of the art ist pressure casting, centrifugal casting
(both best done under vaccuum, to get rid of tiny air-bubbles. As some resins effervesce.)
Conclusion: Casting is not that easy as it looks like !
Either you have your kits casted under your own responsibility/name/company
(then you have to invest money and time)
or you sell your sculpt to a company and let them do the commercial work.
However you decide, you should have the casting to be done in the US (if it isn't
-by far- cheaper to do so in Brazil): Cause of the shipping costs to US, as the US is THE main market for such kits.
Well, I don't wanna give up on the Red Sonja:
Have you asked pros about the possibility to do a kit out of it ?
Maybe you can ask Mark Brokav from Earthbound Studios or Ken Ellis from Solarwind
or Kent Kidwell from Kidwell Concepts for !
Curious to see your next work and -maybe- your professional career as sculptor
and/or kit-producer.
C ya next time
Rainer
