I started out in traditional art in college right when when computer graphics was taking off, got hooked on CG. I started working in the in the video game industry almost twenty years ago, my traditional skills became rusty over time.
The artists in the games industry I really admired were the comp artists. Early on they drew 2D illustrations with actual physical art materials, not CG. At least until the Wacom Cintiq came out, then they went digital, it is faster I admit, but a setup was was a bit expensive.
I spotted a beautiful woman and costume that you might like for reference/ideas, Marlene Dietrich in Kismet.
