For me, the lighting looks great! Dark scene, with the beam light that cross from top left to right below.
If you allow me to comment, perhaps he lacked a little more heaven. (Try trimming with the same format leaving the horizon line 1/3 of the upper margin and the beam of light highlights in the canyon, it is also a very interesting image).

I see what you mean... It would be more balanced (following the 2/3 rule), but then the lighter part on the right hand corner would be gone. Oh well, I can't have it all

Very interesting how the lighting of the canyon varies with 12 minutes apart. In the shot made later, the sun seems to sink in the canyon and gives the image much more volume.
