Description Good morning class, you may call me Mr Spirit. Today we will be going through a step by step guide of how this

artwork was created. Now as you know, this was done as a collaboration between me and Lushies-Art , we decided to both seperately pick a few of my Disney Evolutions characters and have them go against each other. She picked the ones on the left and I picked the ones on the right. We also included characters that have not been featured yet either just to give our audience a sneaky preview of characters to come. Alright lets begin!

1. Well first step we both drew rough sketches of the characters we chose. We didn't know which ones the other person was gonna choose so we just hoped there wouldn't be too many clashes, we ended up just having Ralph 64 being repeated! After we finished our rough sketches, we put them together! As you can see, our rough sketchy style is quite different!

2. Then it was time to clean up the lines, I think Lushie is better with linework so I let her do most of the work. Sometimes I don't even do linework.. I just go straight into coloring and fix up everything at the last stage. I am just chaotic like that.

3. Life is not all black and white, often there are many shades of grey, just like this next step. It was time to shade, we decided it would look best if the light source is from the middle, so I did that and I think it looked great.

4. Coloring stage was pretty easy, just had to look at a reference and fill in the colors like a coloring book. A 3 year old could do it. I think.

5. All there is to this part is combining the shading on top of the base color! And I think it looks pretty dope already! But does it pop up? Does it spark joy? Not yet.

6. This part is all about cleaning up and adding details and dropping light source that bounce around. Lushie did most of that, she is very good at making things shiny. Then I cleaned up some things and added some sick fire and lightning effects. We also gave it a background and there you go! The finished result!

And thats the end of class, don't forget to do your homework.

I have a very different way of rendering my art, but yours sounds good too.

Wow, I really like your process! Thank you for laying it out like this - it helped me realize why I never feel like my art is "finished". I usually do steps 1 and 4, and use one shade of shadow over everything. For my next art attempt, I'll try your step 3, with the "shadow overlay", or whatever the technical term. Did you take classes in digital art? Or did you just learn by doing? I've taken art classes before, but only for the "by hand" stuff (drawing, painting, etc.), so I know about perspective and light sources but not how to make them happen using digital brushes. (I'm using Krita software btw)

I have taken art classes before in school and in college. But I dont think I learnt much from it, I would say I mostly got my art knowledge from just teaching myself. For technical stuff like how to work softwares and stuff, I had to look up tutorials or just have friends teach me and talk about it. But when it comes down to how to make the art look good. I just like looking at art and trying to see what I like about it, and after I find out what I like about that art, I try to incorporate that into my own art. Like if I found an artist that draws very nice eyes, I would then try to put that kind of eye effect on my own work and see if it works, most of the time its an improvement, but sometimes it may not work, and you might want to find another artwork that you like and try to take from that one instead. Just trial and error till you are truly happy with your own style!
If you like my art, try to pinpoint what you like about it, and perhaps apply that into your own work! Be it lighting, or coloring, shading, linework etc.

I have never used Krita, I just use Photoshop. so sorry i cant help you there with the software

I definitely have artists I like, famous or otherwise, but I know if I try to replicate their style I'll be kicking myself for not being "good" in that regard. However, I have experienced what you mean - tracing Pokemon was helpful in me realizing just how big eyes should be on a character to go from real to cartoon-y.

That's a neat idea! I'll try that next time. For example, with my profile pic, I really like the composition. Maybe I let that guide my art and just get better at everything else with trial and error practice.

No worries! I've done Photoshop in the past, but I'll lose the license when I graduate college here in a few weeks, so I had to find a long term solution.

Thank you for your reply! You've been really helpful. I hope you'll continue your art - I think you're doing great.

Kinda reminds me of the opening screen of a mobile game called "Summoner's War."

Is it wrong of me to say that I want a video game made of this now?
