Description so far, whenever I produce a deviation that could be considered half decent, my inner demons keep telling me that it's not good enough, and that I'm a cheap fool and stuff like that.

I have one thing to say to them...

EAT THIS, WURMS!!

Finally, a deviation I can be completely satisfied with! I have no idea just how I manged to produce this, but I'm glad I did. Something good came out of work experience after all.

Anyway, this is a character I just made up and I think I'll make her one of my mascot characters. Her name's Alissa and she's a mage-in-training who's learning both light and dark magic at once. When she's using powerful light magic, the white side of her face takes over her whole body, and when she's using dark, her grey fur creeps over. When she's just reading books and making pretty lights like this, she's a freak!

Because I put so much detail into this artwork, I'm submitting two copies of this artwork, one at 50% so you can look up close, and another at 25% so you can see the whole picture. If the first view is big enough, I won't bother with the 25%.

Done in Photoshop ver 0.7 and NOTHING more.

Alissa (C) Ryanide/M.Hilton 2005, do not distribute this artwork or steal it.

not so much a split personality as her magical spirit altering her physical appearence to suit her intentions. The magic these mages cast is nothing like Harry Potter style. It takes a lot more than waving a wand and muttering some latin. The more advanced magic can only be released through a series of stylised body movements depending on the spell cast, so the end result looks like they are dancing. Light magic requires a lot of acrobatics and flexibility to perform, dark magic requires rigid body posture and precise twitching motions and facial expressions, and elemental magic requires a good sense of rhythm and timing. Therefore the mages have to go through rigorous physical training to learn their spells as well as mental training.

This also gives me an excuse to draw the characters in all sorts of dynamic poses. Huzzah!

I tried that, but blue is opposite to red, and I needed the red hair because then she looks more demonic when casting her dark spells. I really wanted the colours to contrast with each other.

Thanks for suggesting, though. :

Oh thats is looking great! ^^ oh and did I mention that you can do vaiations on separate layers, so if you're afraid to lose the color of Alissa you can slect teh background and darken/tint it to a higher degree , assuming that Alissa is on another layer. ^^ But this is great ^^ I really like the coor of her outfit in this tint than before^^

Very very nice picture ^^ a good resoultion too ^^ I love her out fit and the background with the tree and moon is simply amazing ! ^^ and the glowy orb like thing in front of her is a perfect touch on the picture^^
Now that you enabled Advanced Critique... This is picture is already an amazing piece ^^ I just have some advice for you next time you make another one ^^
-This is a nighttime picture yes? the picture looks like its not "tinted" to the night colores such as dark blue It can be easily done by going to image>adjustments>variations there you can fix it too your likings ^^
-Now since its kinda dark at night save for the moon which is another light source, there is another light source and it is the glowy orb in from of her ^^
there are two ways that you can make that orb glow and cast its glow on its surrounding abjects
*you can go to filter>render>lighting effects and set the "light type" to "omni" and fiddle around with the options to get it just right ^^
*the other technique does not quiet exactly duplicate lighting because when the light is cast on the face it has dark spots and light spots because of the shape and contour of the face so I would use the paint brush and smudge tool to add and touch up on the areas where the light would hit with more intensity than the other spots like this picture [link]

Well I hope I helped somewhat... I personally like night time picture because it a great way to have fun with light, good lighting brings out the best in a picture! ^^

Great Work! on the picture though! ^^ Keep on practicing! ^^

I added a blue tint and darkened the image a tad. Looks better, I think. Thanks for that.

Thanks for the tips! I'll try that some time and see how it works. Still, I'd be afraid of losing the colours if I added a tint. Perhaps she's sitting near a flood light? Wouldn't be surprised, she's only slipped out of her Magic Academy dorm for a little "light" reading, heh heh...

thanks. I think I have fallen in love with the following brushes in Photoshop: Vivid light setting and Smudge tool. I don't know why I never tried using them before.
