Description Abinadi Before King Noah (after Arnold Friberg). This is a painting I did as a study after artist A. Friberg. I love his style and use of color and detail. It is not for sale and for display only. I learned allot by replicating his painting. This is a 48x36 oil on canvas completed in 2003 after Arnold Friberg.

Very nicely done. Is that Alma over there on the far right?

thanks...I'm not sure? Guess he can be whomever we want? I never have known where he is...it's one of those mysteries.

I had a chance to look at a print of the Friberg version the other night. I almost think you've improved on it. I also noticed that Friberg gave Abinadi knobby toes. I think perhaps that might be Alma though. He was fairly young at the time.

Yeah, I agree with you about Alma.
Friberg has some great works up there doesn't he? If you are in the Springville area between now and Jan 28th. you should go check out the religious and spiritual show. Jeff hein has a piece he did of Christ that looks alot like something Carl Bloch would have done. I have one in there as well.

Very cool, except I don't get down to Springville much. If by chance I'm down in the eara I'll stop by.

wow!!! this is awesome!! Friberg is one of my favourite artists!! (ironically moreso for his western and RCMP art then his LDS art.. which i still love but not as much as the others) and you replicated it quite well!! great job!

The detail is great. I bet you learned a lot from this. I can see some minor mistakes in perspective and in some of the faces. I know I wouldn't be able to do this well though and by looking at more recent work you've improved a lot. This is a nice piece!

RyanXR1 In reply to ursusminor77 [2011-12-31 14:15:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks...I have learned more from painting this than any art class I have ever taken. The way I look at it is....as long as I learned something from the experience of actually painting the piece, regardless of the outcome, then it's a success. And you continually learn from your past paintings. Even today I look at my past works and think...what was I thinking there? or what is that? or how come I didn't see that before? The painting is still nice but as an artist you will never be satisfied (and that’s a good thing). Thanks for the comments.
