Well, I'm somewhat interested to see what would happen if someone was visiting a deceased family member while Funeral Dirge is around. I'm actually wouldn't mind meeting him...well, provided he doesn't kill me for trespassing on his territory without meaning to.

He is actually a rather social dragon, as long as your not attempting to traverse his lair, steal from him, attack him or anouther dracosteed he hasn't made friends with coming into his territory he is usually up for talking, well also if he is hungry there is a 50/50 shot he might try to eat you.

And what if I made a substantial offering of food or treasures to him, what that lessen the chances of chomping on me? Though I suppose that would probably result in me ending up as one of his servants, unless of course he has a criteria for that.

He would likely give you an interview on the spot. You'd be able to talk to him calmly though for the most part probably find some info out about him, He also has minions or worshipers he does let you decide for the most part. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q3s4_β¦

He loves stories, but yeah he would totally make you into one his minions. I mean your already bringing him food treasure. Swapping stories and entertaining him. He'd talk the lionger you do so the more you'd find out. It comes with the benefit of if you get in trouble,Β well he'll do this for you www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5r65Lβ¦

Heh, with that much free reign to travel around, I wouldn't mind being his minion. Especially if he'll come to rescue me if I get into trouble that I can't get out of myself. Granted, a crippled wanderer won't get much attention beyond highwaymen and thugs. :3

True i mean it has to be something to catch his attention. But he views his minions as his propery. Thusly if some group messes with his minions enough he going to descend on them as an acid spraying gravelurker

Though I have to wonder, how would he know if one of his property(minions) is in trouble? Does he have some sort of magical link with his property or does he has some kind of enchantment that tells him if someone is trying to steal or destroy his property?

RykuBloodwing In reply to Argus456 [2015-02-24 18:03:56 +0000 UTC]
For his main horde draco steeds actually do have a magical connection to there horde. They actually draw strength from there worshipers, minions(actual minions not the ones they just claim as them),magical items in there treasure, the, gems, coins and other items. So yes infact a dragon who gains a large treasure trove infact has an edge in strength. Problem dragons kinda eat many items in there treasure trove. He would be able to tell if a true minion vanished but when his net work becomes big enough it might go unnoticed. Because he has little a single minion would be noticable once there gone. If the minion is a worshiper they might offer prayers of help to him or he could craft a trinket, but if he is crafting a trinket for a minion to get in touch with him because there in danger or something they must be a truly prized minion.

So basically if draco steeds have a large number of minions and one is in danger, the draco steed might be unaware of his disappearance unless he offers a prayer for help? Does this vary from draco steed to the next as I think each one might favor one method or two over the others for sake of convenience.
You also mention that draco steed also eats their horde, would that include minions as well? Though it would be a last measure as minions are better used gathering food than being food.
Since most creatures probably won't live forever like their master so what would a draco steed for example, Funeral Dirge, do if a minion dies of old age? Add the body to the horde where it belongs or maybe if the minion had free reign to travel around and have family, what then? Would they go and claim the body as part of its horde and take it away or simply go visit that grave to make sure no grave robber or necromancer disturbs them.
Also, another thought came to mind, has there been cases of a minion's descendants coming to willingly serve a draco steed as a new minion, strengthening a bloodline's bond with the draco steed?

Well your correct there several types of draco steed broken up into 5 major catagories then broken down from there. Metallic dragons, chromatic, catastrophic dragon, planar dragons. with-in those broad groups all dragons fall somewhere. Now some steeds and dragons place more on there magic items, there gold or there minions. Dirge specifically is a social type of dragon so he places emphasis off his minions so he gains strength through his minions and worshipers. But it comes more from the fact that the larger the dragons horde the more he is linked to if it gets to big it be like losing a drop of water in an ocean. Its not to say a dragon hasn't destroyed an entire town because one coin went missing. But yes saddly most dragons don't realize there minions are in trouble until after the fact, but prayers to there master can get there attention if the dragon cares enough.
Well dragons eat gems, magical treasure, gold, regular food and minions. Some zelots are happy to become a lords lunch like kobolds find it an honor to get eaten. They also commonly eat minions who fail them. But useful minions find there lord will descend from the heavens to ruin peoples days for messing with there possessions.
Well dirge specially is a grave lord,Β lesser minions might get the honor of being eaten. But usful or his favorite minions would have him performing funeral rites for them and perhaps preserving the bodies in his own lair. Not willing to allow others to mess with the remains of his favorited, he would carfully preserve there body over centuries. But thats his specific breed do to them often being consiodered the undertakers of dragon kind. Other dragon types will do various things.
Some minion have entire bloodlines devoted to there dragon master and its rumored on occasion for a dragon lord to interbreed with a strong minion line gifting them with a bit of streagth. some species though like goblins and kobolds have entire villages dedicated to there master.

So are there entire settlements built near a draco steed's lair where the citizens devote or worship said draco steed in the world you're building?

RykuBloodwing In reply to Argus456 [2015-02-25 10:50:17 +0000 UTC]
For some steeds those in there home land have an entire country. Those who leave the homeland need to think of the pro's and cons of having settlements many don't want to much attention so they settle for a few mindless minions instead of having statues erected to them saying hi im a dragon come try to kill me.

Argus456 In reply to RykuBloodwing [2015-02-25 15:08:39 +0000 UTC]
A whole country devoted to a draco steed...must be long lived if they've got a whole nation worshiping them though what would happen if a dracosteed's nation encroached on another dracosteed's nation? Would they war it out(and possibly lose part of their horde) or would the draco steeds themselves fight it out themselves.
Then again, they're intelligent beings so they might discuss the issue calmly and if negotiations break then, then the fight?

RykuBloodwing In reply to Argus456 [2015-02-25 15:17:00 +0000 UTC]
Well that nation is a country of dragon worshipers who praise to the eldrict ones. the 13 most powerful dragons in the world. most dracosteeds are born in that country due to its high dragon population. No dracosteed who has left arima has ever done much more then become a moderate pest before being swiftly removed from power playing dragon. once you leave arima you no longer have the councils protection.

Argus456 In reply to RykuBloodwing [2015-02-25 16:50:27 +0000 UTC]
So most draco steeds that leave their homeland basically find their niche in life and spend it there or do some go explore the world to widen their horizon before returning to Arima?
π: 0 β©: 1
RykuBloodwing In reply to Argus456 [2015-02-26 04:09:37 +0000 UTC]
Find there niche in life, try to make it on there own instead of in the shadow of the council. Dirge wants to become a dragon god high ambitions but its kinda because he is a dragon. But draco steeds who leave arima tend to live fast and short due to a mix of fighting adventurers and each other. Dracologists are the ones most likely to fight with each other, dracomancers are more so researchers. Dragoons tend to work directly for the council themselves, leaving when doing missions for the council. in arima itself dragoons tend to live long prosperious lives, dracomancers are well respected and valued member of society for a time. Dracologists tend to have accidents before they get to terribly old.
