Description Growing up as a hunter’s daughter was hard. I moved around lot, ended up with a prison record in five different states, three warrants that are still active in three different states, and a ton of visits to different hospitals all over the country. I had a hard childhood, but it made me a strong person, let alone the field medicine I learned. That helped me get a job as a nurse at a hospital in a small town, but I never knew my job wouldn’t last very long.

One night, I was on my way to work for the night shift, following a 1967 Chevrolet black Impala which seemed to be rushing down the road. What I didn’t know was that the car was headed to the same place I was: the hospital.

Suddenly, a semi truck came straight of a side road and slammed into the Impala, shoving it into the grass on the side of the road, but it didn’t seem to be an accident as it continued to push it further into the grass. I had been keeping my distance from the Impala, just in case, so I had time to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting the semi at all.

I got out and went to check on the people in the two vehicles, but the driver of the semi seemed to have no regrets as he climbed out. He turned to me and glared at me with black eyes. I froze, all of my weapons at my home. I knew I couldn’t take a demon on alone, and the driver and passengers of the Impala needed me the most.

The trucker walked up to the driver’s side door of the Impala and glared down at the driver. I stood as still as possible, waiting for a chance to rush to their aid. My waiting quickly paid off as black smoke quickly streamed out of the host’s mouth. He stood there in awe, unable to believe what had happened. I took my chance and rushed to the Impala. I talked to the trucker to try and calm him down, then quickly turned to the people who needed me most at this point in time. The driver was conscious, and very nervous, calling to on of the other passengers, Dean.

“Sir? Sir, are you alright?” I asked him, trying to keep him from going into shock.

“I’m fine. My brother. Can you see my brother? Is he alright?” He continued to try to look back into the back seat at the unconscious passenger. “Can you see him?”

I looked back in the back at him, blood streaming down his face. “He seems pretty beat up, but I can’t tell right now. I’ll be able to tell you more when we get to the hospital. I was just on my way there,” I told him, trying to get his mind off of the two other passengers. He needed to stay calm or he could die of the shock himself.

“You’re a doctor?” He asked, seemingly hopeful.

“A nurse, but I can’t do anything for you or anyone else until we get to the hospital,” I explained, keeping my self calm. He nodded, obviously frightened.

“Don’t let him die. Please!” He begged.

“I won’t. I promise. What’s your name?” I asked.

“Sam,” he said.

“Alright, Sam. I’m gonna go call the hospital and tell them where we are and that we need help. After that, I’m gonna need you to talk to me so that you don’t go into shock. I’m not letting any of you die, okay?” He nodded again in understanding. I stepped off to the side and dialed the front desk at the hospital.

“Hello?” My friend Rachael asked, being the nurse at the front desk.

“Oh, thank God. Rachael, it’s Michelle. I need an ambulance, right away.”

“What happened?”

I recounted my story and told her where we were. “Make it a rush order.”

“Will do. It should be about ten minutes.”

“Thanks. You’re the best,” I said thankfully. She let out a slight laugh.

“I do what I can,” she said, then she hung up. I went back to Sam who had begun calling to Dean again.

“Sam, an ambulance will be here in ten minutes. How are you holding up?” I asked, crouching down so I could see his face better. He only had a few small cuts.

“I’m worried about my brother. He won’t answer me. He won’t wake up,” he said, a tear rolling down his cheek. I looked back at who I assumed Dean was, but he hadn’t moved. The blood just continued to pour.

“It’s normal, Sam. The ambulance will be here soon, and they’ll be able to help Dean and your other passenger. I promise. If you want, I’ll stay with one of them as they’re rushed to the hospital, but you’re gonna have to calm down. I can’t have you going into shock because I can’t move any of you,” I explained.

“I’m fine, I promise. I’ve seen a lot worse than what just happened. I’m just worried about my brother. Dean?! Dean!” He started calling again.

“Sam, everything’s gonna be fine, I promise. Now that the demon is gone, I’m not gonna let you get hurt again. Just talk to me. Keep talking to me about anything you want. Tell me about Dean. Tell me what you’ve been hunting.” He gave me a look of surprise, not expecting me to have knowledge of a hunter, but he started telling me about their journey from Sam’s days at Stanford to why they were on their way to the hospital.* I just listened to him, letting him say whatever he wanted. I had to keep his mind off of Dean, but he’d occasionally ask how he looked. I would check and say that nothing had changed.

The ambulance soon arrived, and the EMTs rushed us to the hospital. Sam had asked me to ride with Dean, and their dad rode alone, just as Sam did. It was a quick ride to the hospital, and Dean didn’t seem to be doing too well, but I did what I could for him, along with the EMTs.

When we got to the hospital, I requested that I be put on Sam, Dean, and John’s cases, helping their doctors in any way necessary. Sam was grateful, and he didn’t seem to want me to get too far from him, even after he was released with minor injuries. I stayed close and informed him of his brother’s progress and of his dad’s progress. He was happy that I was giving him the information without any hesitation. I knew he could handle it, so I saw no reason to hide anything from him. Besides, he would find out from other doctors if I didn’t tell him, but I figured it should come from someone he remotely trusts.

Sam mainly stayed in Dean’s room, Dean being the one with the more severe injuries. I stayed nearby, checking his chart when the doctors wrote something new in. I kept an eye on Dean’s condition when the doctors were busy with other patients. Sam just sat in a chair beside the bed and watched him worriedly.

“He’ll be fine, you know,” I said, my eyes looking over information in Dean’s charts. Sam looked up at me.

“Are you sure?” He asked skeptically, the words of the doctors having tainted his judgment.

“Positive. I’ve seen cases worse than this pull through. I’ve never lost a single patient,” I replied, still not looking up as I read about the medications.

“Not a single patient? That’s strange. Every doctor I’ve met has lost at least one patient, and nurses too,” he retorted.

“Well, I’ve never lost a patient. Your brother won’t be my first. I promise,” I said as I looked up and smiled at him. He hesitated, then he smiled back.

“I’m glad.”

One of the interns walked in and knocked on the door. We both looked at him.

“You said to let you know when John Winchester woke up,” he spoke nervously.

“Thank you. You can go on your break, now,” I told him. He sighed in relief and left the room.

I turned back to Sam who had already jumped up, ready to leave Dean’s side for only a short time. He paused to look at Dean for a second, then back at me with pleading eyes.

“I need to check on your dad, but I’ll come right back after I’m done, okay?” I tried reassuring him with my promise that Dean would be fine. He nodded slightly, then we walked to John’s room to check on him.

John looked up from the bed at Sam who smiled at his dad. John smiled back, but his smile faded into a look of surprise when he saw me.

“Sage…?” He said disbelievingly. I was confused, the name bringing back an old dream I had had, but not knowing who the name belonged to.

“Uh… No, sir. My name is Michelle Mason,” I explained. He nodded.

“Right. I’m sorry. You just looked like a little girl I used to know many years ago,” he clarified. I nodded, feeling skeptical, but believing him for now.

“Well, let’s take a look at your chart, shall we?” I walked over and looked at the chart, reading over the medications and injuries.

“Dad, who was Sage?” Sam inquired of his father.

“Just a little girl that stayed with us until your mother passed,” he declared. I wasn’t buying it, but it wasn’t my business, so I kept my mouth shut.

“Is she the girl in the picture in your wallet?” Sam prodded.

“Yes,” John replied, obviously not lying this time.

“She looks a lot like me,” Sam stated, obviously suspicious.

“Yes, she does,” John said, seemingly having just noticed it from the memory in his mind. Sam had obviously been ruminating about it for months or years.

“And so does this nurse here,” Sam stated, indicating me as I looked up from the chart, surprised. I could see what he was insinuating, but I didn’t think it was possible.

“Sam, she is not Sage. You just heard her say that her name is Michelle Mason, and I’m sure she would never have changed her name,” he argued, obviously trying not to be caught in a lie.

“What do you know?” I inquired. He hesitated, obviously not wanting to answer my question.

“Mr. Winchester, my father was a hunter just like you and your boys. If it involves your work, it won’t surprise me in the least,” I coaxed, trying to get the answer out of him, but he still seemed just as hesitant.

“Dad?” Sam said sternly. He finally sighed and decided to give in.

“Alright… I’ll tell you… Sam, you had a twin sister, and her name was Sage. I thought she died in the fire with your mother. I had gotten you to Dean and had him rush you out, but I couldn’t get to her. I don’t know how she would have gotten out, but it’s possible that she’s still out there, and with the resemblance between you and Nurse Mason, here, I thought she might be Sage, but other than your looks, it doesn’t look like she’s your sister,” he let out, almost as if releasing a large weight from his chest.

“A sister? Why did you hide this from us, and why are we counting her out? She could be Sage for all we know!” Sam retorted, angry from the new knowledge that had been hidden from him and his brother.

“Because I was trying to protect her. If she’s alive, then maybe the demon that was attacking both of you is still out there looking for both of you,” he calmly replied, obviously knowing exactly how he was going to explain himself. I was a little surprised at his calm demeanor, but then I realized that he had probably known that this day was coming and had planned this moment.

“Well, by now, she can probably handle herself, and if not, we can help her learn, if this isn’t her! You should’ve never hidden her from us, Dad!” Sam was almost yelling, getting close to John. I put my hand on his chest and pushed him back.

“Sam, you need to relax. You may be alright, but your dad isn’t. He needs rest, and I can’t go check on Dean if you’re getting worked up about this,” I explained. He sighed and sat down.

“Fine… For Dean, I’ll calm down, but we are gonna talk about this,” he declared, almost demanding it of his father. I nodded.

“I’ll be back. I’m gonna go check on Dean. Try not to kill your dad while I’m gone,” I warned, walking out of the room.

Suddenly, I heard a heart monitor flat-lining. I took off for Dean’s room where doctors and nurses were rushing to. Sam was quickly on my heals, having considerable height on me. He had seen the commotion and bolted into action. Interns kept him in the doorway while we quickly tried to save Dean. I saw a figure floating above him, and I hesitated, then I saw Dean grab the figure and throw it off of his body. It quickly disappeared once he touched it, flying out of the door. His body returned to a stable state and he seemed to relax. The doctors relaxed as well, then they began to clear out. I stayed and waited. Sam stayed by Dean’s side when he was allowed back in the room. I looked at Dean’s spirit and he stared back. He looked at me for a moment, then a surprised look came across his face.

“Can you see me?” He asked. I hesitated, looking around to make sure no one was watching, then I nodded.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I think I will continue it, when I have the time. This is hell week for our fall play at my school, so it's really hard to get to the computer right now, especially with being sick... I'll see what I can do about getting more up soon, though.
