Description An Anno Astra Mobile Suit...and the right leg's a bit twisted (call it laziness).

YHM-100 Durandal
Named after the legendary sword wielded by Hector and Roland, the Durandal was designed for one single purpose: to out-dogfight any mobile suit that it faces in a space environment.

To achieve this end, the Durandal excels in three fields: stealth, speed and maneuverability.

It possesses a low-emission mode and passive stealth features to minimize the distinctive EM signature of Minovsky drives without relying on active Minovsky jamming methods. Its passive systems and EM-absorbent pseudo-organic 'skin' also makes it difficult to detect with more conventional methods, such as radar, lidar and MFO sensors.

High-output generators and multiple Minovsky Drive thrusters give it unprecedented acceleration, rumoured to be almost twice that of contemporaries in its weight class. Since it is not intended for terrestrial combat, the Durandal's Minovsky lift system is rarely used, thus freeing up more energy for its Drive and Field.

Six turret binders (back, shoulder & hip), thrice the usual number, are supplemented by strategically-placed vernier thrusters to give the Durandal unsurpassed maneuverability, vital in close combat. The beam sabers are also designed to operate for a longer duration or with a longer blade. Its head pulse lasers can also fire continuous beams for short durations.

Unfortunately, its energy- and propellant-intensive requirements severely limit its range, necessitating its use of strap-on propellant tanks. It also has fewer hardpoints for the mounting of additional gear. In consequence, the small numbers produced are rarely used for anything other than fleet defense.

Dude you are a mecha god! I too love designing mecha. I strive to be the next Kunio Okawara (the guy who designs mobile suits for Gundam.) Your "Durandal" is awesome. Does it have anything to do with Gilbert Durandal? Hey maybe you and me could design mecha together.

I hope I'm not being annoying.

No connection with Gil; I did this before Seed-D premiered.

Maybe when I'm not swamped with RL...

As mentioned in the text description, 'not intended for terrestrial combat,' so I have an excuse for that.

If it excels in speed and maneuvrability, then u chose the wrong name, Durandal is the christian nuke, a mystical sword given by god itself to smite all of it's enemy. It is supposed to have around 12 relics inside it's pommel. It's not stealthy, it's plain out ass whacking.

Though the pic is cool

That's what it's supposed to do--destroy other mobile suits with relative impunity. The stealth and maneuverability help it do that much better. Besides, it was Roland who was the 'Christian nuke.' He just happened to have a superior tool (and it was a pagan hero's weapon before that) to smite his enemies with.

Well, he did in a very flashy fashion, and refused to retreat when overwhelmed, and well... got killed XD

Hubris? No I'm serious, I'm french-canadian and we study french litterature (especially when it come to older age litterature since canada didint exist yet >< And I think I know what I'm talking abt

Also, Roland was a christian nuke 'cuz he was havin' Durandal... not the opposite.

Anyway, it's a nice pic, ok? shhhhh let's stop abt this ><

No, what I meant was that Roland's pride was partly to blame for him not sounding his horn earlier, that and Ganelon...also, he didn't have Durandal when he defeated Ferragus nor when he battled Durandal's previous owner (nor when he went amuck).

But then, this was covered in Orlando Furioso etc. by the Italians, and not in The Song of Roland. Oh, well.

Coolness. The dark colors make it hard to make out any details, but I guess that's the point. The right leg looks fine to me, the left looks a bit squashed tho, and the foot at an awkard angle... Anyway. Really love the torso design, even if it's a tad big for the rest, IMO anyway. (I generally go for smaller torsos) Shoulder design looks solid too, from what I can make out.

You're right--I forgot about the left foot. There was a bit of Photoshop manipulation there, it was actually much worse.

Anyways, here's the uncoloured lineart:
